The List of Personal Minecraft Goals, Quests and Challenges
- By SGExplorer & Adocean
Introduction
Welcome to The List of Personal Minecraft Goals, Quests and Challenges Project. Our goal in this community project is to create & organize Goals & Challenges for Single-Player Survival mode in Minecraft. If you have ever made personal little goals for yourself in your Minecraft world, you should have an idea of what this is about! This is a project to add fun goals and challenges to your Minecraft world, such as "Make a house out of a dungeon (must contain mossy cobble stone)" and "Discover 8 diamond (must be in one vein)"
Adocean and I have started this list from our own ideas and grabbing some goals we found from the internet. To keep our ideas fresh, we're posting this to the community so you can add your ideas and also enjoy the project!
I think adding Goals and Quests to Minecraft makes your personal experience with Minecraft much more fun and exciting, thats why this project was made. Minecraft without goals seems to get a bit stale after awhile, doesn't it? Thats why this list of goals & quests is here. So if your interested in having some goals for yourself while you play Minecraft, we recommend starting a new Minecraft world, (I preferably like Large Biomes) and keeping this list on the side, so you constantly have something to strive for while playing. Everyone has different preferations when it comes to having goals, so you may add your own goals and quests to the list. We recommend that if you do, you should post them here!!! We may add your ideas to the list. We would love to see them, again thats why we posted this here. To let the community feed this list so it will grow, making the way we play Minecraft less stale, and more exciting.
We will be constantly updating this list as it improves. The reason I decided to post this online was to get the communities friendly help to make this as organized, well thought out, and as fun as possible- and to share it with Minecraft Players alike. If you have any ideas for simple goals, or Mega Challenges (More on that later) or to help organize which Goals should go in which Levels, feel free to add your ideas! We will very happily take every idea into consideration.
Should you decide to start a Let's Play series based off this list, (because that would be pretty amazing) Don't forget to post your video link here, I may showcase it! Be warned though, this list may constantly be changing - for the better. Which may scramble your LP up a bit, unless you can find a structured way to take care of the changes made to this list for your series.
Here are the explanations of the Levels and Mega Challenges, the 2 main points of the project.
Levels
Levels are the main point of the list. Starting off with Level 1, you may advance through levels which contain more and more difficult and challanging goals after passing. Each Level has 12 Goals. To pass a Level you must honestly complete 10 of the 12 goals in a level. (You may do all of the 12 goals) You may accomplish the goals in a level in any order you would like.
Mega Challenges
After each level you pass, you come across a Mega Challenge. More advance than a common goal, there are two Mega Challenges to choose from. Mega Challenges come in 3 different forms: Explore-Build-Battle. You may proceed to the next level after completing 1 of the 2 Mega Challenges. Mega Challenges are much more complex than a normal goal and have many more catches and rules. A Mega Challenge is meant to feel as a mini quest (or large quest as they get more challenging) They each also have their own individual
names to go by.
Here it is, Enjoy!! We recommend after accomplishing a goal, to mark it off in a way so you know you have already completed it. There are currently few levels and Mega Challenges (Quests) so feel free to contribute at any time. Keep in mind if you break any rules, you are only ruining the goals for yourself!

If you do not build it in time, you must try again in a different location.
Mega Challenge B
EXPLORE

Villages, Dungeons, Desert Temples, and Jungle Temples. For example, you may find 2 Dungeons and 1 village.
Once you leave your home for your quest, you may NOT cook any food, craft anything, or place any blocks.
(You may place torches, as they are an Item) You are a complete Treasure Hunter with NO crafting abilities what-so-ever,
until you come back home with the Loot from the 3 Structures. This means you may NOT place a furnace down at night,
you may NOT place a door for protection when night time falls, you may NOT place ANY blocks.

(You may not dig around the spawner to get a cheap capture in) You can NOT die,
or go back to a base to re-stock on supplies until you have successfully completed the quest.
If you die, you must start the quest over with 3 untouched dungeons.
Mega Challenge B
BUILD
Building An Empire: Take a village with Villagers in it, and build a castle wall around the village
(Atleast 10 blocks high, with some kind of Gatehouse as an entrance- Get creative)
The wall must contain either stone bricks or wood blocks - Both is fine.
After each stack of blocks you place for the wall, you must make a trade with a villager,
you cannot make the same trade with the same villager twice- if you run out of unused trades,
you must breed more villagers.

plain land, find an untouched plains-type biome, and plant a proper forest on it, turning the WHOLE biome into a manmade
forest.
Mega Challenge B
BATTLE
Find a village with villagers and atleast 1 iron golem in it, using any equipment you have (No enchanted equipment aloud)
You must kill every single villager with a bow, and then kill the iron golem with a sword, or vice versa. If you die,
you must restart the challenge with a new village.
That is all for now, I still have a large list of other mini goals and quests (Mega Challenges) we have made, though they are much more advance. I would like to see how the community reacts from this project of ours. I plan on changing the Levels to having (24) Goals in which you must complete atleast (20) to advance. With 3 Mega Challenges at the end of each Level, 1 EXPLORE - 1 BUILD - 1 BATTLE to choose from for each, where you would have to complete 2 of them to advance.
Thanks, this post is well thought out and had a lot of work put into it. The least you can do is give your thoughts!

I'm bored, so I might as well try this. Will post results later.
Just saying, but the Level 1 Battle challenge seems a good deal harder than the Level 1 Explore challenge. Naming everything and exploring a single biome? Not too difficult. Fighting off the night with only a stone sword? Possible (i've done it before to grind EXP on an MCMMO server once) but a good deal more difficult.

Good point, these are exactly the kinds of suggestions we are looking for. We changed it to any sword, there is no restriction on what sword you can have. Thanks for the suggestion!

I got a couple of ideas! Hope I'm not moving too quickly..
Level 5, moving up a level into more difficult tasks.
Have a complete set of Diamond Armor.
Have a Mob Spawner.
Have a Kingdom which interlocks 2 (or more) Villages, with Villagers.
Level 5 Mega Challenge: Battle
Using any set of armor, any sword, and Bow and Arrows. Go into the Nether, attack a Zombie Pigman, and survive a night. (10 minutes IRL)
Hey, you've got to have progression somewhere. Complete set of diamond armor, already had that on my personal notes, (Along with another hundred goals) though now I'll be sure to put it in Level 5 now that you mention. The Kingdom is good, thats what you call a goal. At first it sounds overwhelming, I like it.
Having a spawner, I personally never liked "item factorys" from making an automatic mob trab from a spawner, though "owning" a spawner is a good goal. Will be added.
Level 5 Mega Challenges are going to be Explore, and Build. (You can see "Battle" has already been used in the last 2, I'm trying to manage all of them evenly) And your nether idea gives me an idea. How about (for level 6, perhaps) You go to the nether, and go on some kind of Ghast hunt? Maybe don't come back until you've collected 10 ghast tears (Gotta have difficult goals here now, remember) or have killed 30 ghasts? I always strive to make my "Mega Challenges" complicated yet "free" feeling with lots of twists, so thats a basic idea.
Thanks for your suggestions and stuff, keep them up. It makes me happy to see some of my hard work generate some discussion!

Yeah, that seems like a fun challenge!
Now, I've thought of some more...Mostly because I get bored playing in Survival by myself, so setting challenges is a good way to pass the time!
Level 3
Build a Potion Stand
Have at least 1 of each ore. (Coal, Iron, Gold, Diamond, Red Stone, Emerald, ect..)
Have murdered at least 10 of each Oveerworld Hostile Mob. (Creeper, Any Kind of Zombie, Skeleton, Spider)
Yeah, that seems like a fun challenge!

It is a good way to pass the time, thats all I did for a few days straight was find and make up the most essential and "out of the box" goals. I'm glad we have your support.
OK, soon we are going to go back to all the Levels and most likely add 24 goals to each of them. This means 24 of the BEST easy goals for starting out. You will have to complete 20 of the 24 to advance. So any suggestions for goals for Level 1, 2, and so on are always welcome. The community is 90% of the concepts here.
Now this would seem like way too many goals and not enough Mega Challeges/Quests. So also for every Mega Challenge, (after a Level) there are three mega challenges to choose from instead of 2, and you must complete 2 of them instead of 1. So there will be a "build" "explore" and "battle" for each mega challenge.
So anyway these 3 suggestions of yours will probably be added to Level 3 in the future when the levels are expanded. Now to express my feelings about them.
Build a potion stand, Perfect.
Have atleast 1 of each ore, Perfect idea! However I feel this may belong in Level 2, just so it's a challenge just to kinda force some people to go mining for certain ores early in the game. Let me know what you think, Level 3 or 2? This needs some heavy thinking.
Have murdered at least 10 of each Overworld Hostile Mob, another perfect simple goal. However maybe this should belong in Level 2? If not, I think it should be bumped up to atleast 25 of each hostile mob. Any ideas?
I want players to take a look at the list and go "I really have to work for this goal" instead of "oh look, I just naturally passed this one without even trying" Which is very difficult, because I understand every game play session is different. In this case, putting the list to the test is our best bet to get the best results. Even though we probably won't ever perfect the list, I know we can shoot for a general spot where all the challenges are genuine goals; not too easy and not too difficult.
So testing the list is essential, no doubt. Anyone else who would like to test the list and report it back here, would be a great help! Just to let us know what you think was much too challenging, much too easy, or just some suggestions you came up with while playing it would also be perfect.

Thats great, how was the challenge curve for you? Did you feel something important was being left out? Was something much too easy/difficult? Thanks for trying, now quit being lazy and finish that garden! Should have been the first thing accomplished on the list! haha

Yeah, I choose the Ores and the Mob murdering on purpose.
It represents the two main styles of playing Minecraft.. Some people play it for the Mining and Crafting, going out of their way to build incredible structures!
On the other hand, some people enjoy the RPG concept behind the game, mostly murdering countless Mobs.
These challenges inspire people to explore the limits of Minecraft's infinite capabilities!
Also, more ideas.
I agree with you on both parts, Ore collecting is pretty basic, so bumping it down a level is good. Bumping up the kill count to 25 of each Mob is a good idea. You could even keep progress in Books.
Each level should have 3 Mega Challenges, Explore, Battle, Build.
A couple of Mega Challenges
Battle
Barbarian: Equipped with only a Sword, and Leather Armor, spend the night in a far away place. Preferably a Jungle. Kill mobs, and eat what you cook. If anything, this can give you a huge level boost.
Rambo: Using a Bow and as many Arrows as you can make, spend a whole day (Day and Night) killing as many Mobs as you can. Food is allowed, and you can bring Wolves with you.
Ender Slayer: Go out of your way to murder as many Ender Men as you can...Using any possible means, try to get a stack of Ender Pearls.
Explorer!
Adventurer: Find the highest Mountain you can find, as tall as possible! Scale to the top, spending a night or two on the Mountain, making small camps. Once you reach the peak of the Mountain, build a pillar of Gold Blocks, and put a sign on top, with your name written on it!
Build!
King!: Create your own Village, with a Butcher Store, a Library, Some Farms, ect.., and rule!
We will start working on level 5 tomarrow, And those are good ideas tehshutur! We already went through your Mega challenges and alot of them we thought were real good. we may add them to the list! I thank you all for giving your thoughts for these goals! thank you alot it means alot to me.
Mega challenges:
one of my favorite things to do in vanilla was excavate an entire desert of sand AND sandstone
build a 10x10 pyramid with the outside being gold blocks and the inside wool, top it off with a beacon
connect 4 bases with a (semi) automated minecart track.
Build a tower (8 block diameter) from bedrock to skylimit using a material other than cobble stone or dirt or sand (fancier blocks are cooler), let sunlight touch the bedrock.
find a sizable lake and replace the top water blocks with lava.
thats all the stuff i've done on my vanilla survival world but i play with ftb now XD
I like that suggestion, we will use it in Level 4, thank you very much for the suggeston!
Good point, these are exactly the kinds of suggestions we are looking for. We changed it to any sword, there is no restriction on what sword you can have. Thanks for the suggestion!

Level 5, moving up a level into more difficult tasks.

To God be the Glory!
Yeah, that seems like a fun challenge!
Now, I've thought of some more...Mostly because I get bored playing in Survival by myself, so setting challenges is a good way to pass the time!
I believe wild Iron golems attack you horrifically if you even smack a villager by accident.

Also, more ideas.
one of my favorite things to do in vanilla was excavate an entire desert of sand AND sandstone
build a 10x10 pyramid with the outside being gold blocks and the inside wool, top it off with a beacon
connect 4 bases with a (semi) automated minecart track.
