I have one question, if your IP address is suck a valuable thing and only you should know it. But why can any owner/op on a server type on simple command and get it I under stand stealing information like that is a crime but that doesn't mean people will not do it. Also some sites have a button where you can press it and get someones IP like that, of course only the owners of the site can do that. I do know that you need to know some ones IP to IP ban them but why can't you just type (/banip "playername") and the server finds and bans that persons IP address without any one seeing it. Please give me some in site on why this is.
2. because if you do something and they ban you, you can easily go back on the server with another account. So with the ip they can ban your ip so you cant go on the server with that computer anymore.
Because the IP is required to connect to the server, and to maintain that connection, and even if the server made it so normal players cannot see that IP, a simple modification could be made to the server files, to make it so it does show.
Yeah your IP address is like your password.
Very valuable but if someone knows it.
Your screwed but I don't think someone would make a server for the sole purpose of hacking/DDosing people

I know that but if you type /ipban (playername) the server could find their ip and automatically ban their ip without any human eyes seeing it.

Also I am debating you have no clue of what this forum post is about.
Someone knowing your IP is only a problem if they have malicious intents with it, and if you believe the staff on a server would do anything with your IP then don't join the server or don't stay on long enough for them to get it.

The problem with the truth, is that it never lies.

I agree with that but, I know they won't but if a hacker some how has a force op or gets op and he can type in that command and BOOM! Get their IP address
The IP address of your computer is used by literally every website in existence to create and maintain a wireless connection. There isn't a big concern if somebody knows your IP address, sure, you can get DDOS'd with very little effort on the part of the server owner, but that's a basic concern of anyone on the internet, easily fixed with minimal effort.
People will only DDOS you if they want to, use common sense (or a proxy) when joining a server.
It's like downloading files off of the internet, some websites (trustworthy servers) may get you the files you want, and some websites (malicious servers/script kiddies/hackers) may DDOS you.

I do understand that but some thing can happen and you never know, now I don't think I am in trouble of getting hacked or anything its just a simple question

This post shows you know nothing of hacking nor server management. First off, force op does not exist, for one minecraft patch there was an exploit that allowed you to spoof an op's session id to get op. But that was quickly patched. And if the server owner is stupid enough to give someone who is a hacker op, then the server isn't very good anyways. And again, the hacker would have to want to DDoS you, so just don't him off and you will be fine.

Your point is entirely valid, however, using a proxy/network redundancy protocol can easily mitigate the possible effects of a DDOS, or checking out the options your Internet Service Provider has for DDOS protection. Yes, it's perfectly possible that a defective admin could always get a list of IP's from users (Server log) and DDOS them. On another note, the benefits of the IP being easily tracable outweigh the downsides, as shown below:
The primary benefits of the easily traceable IP allow for easy IP-banning and tracking, and allow for servers to trace people who DDOS'd them.
The downside is the concept of the defective/malicious admin. Simple as that.

My how would the owner know some one is a hacker or not? And what if the hacker just wanted some random person to do it? Now again this is just a question of why some one can just type a command to get it. I under stand IP banning etc. but can't they do some thing else with it.

Whether a server owner would have the knowledge of whether somebody is a hacker or not is the innate risk of running a Minecraft Server, or any kind of server for the matter, DDOS mitigation from the ISP or network security hardware is the only thing that's needed in that case. Besides, the only thing that a DDOS can do is overwhelm a server, resulting in network downtime, anything else (Remote Access Tools, etc.) is just a sign of network insecurity that can be easily fixed via network security hardware (firewalls, polymorphic passwords, etc.)
IP addresses are revealed to literally everything on the internet. Post on a wiki that lets you edit without an account? IP tracked. Go to someone's website? IP tracked. Connect to a server? IP tracked. Besides, if you don't want them to have yours, set up a dynamic IP.
Yeah your IP address is like your password.

Your IP address is nothing at all like your password.
If anything, it's more like your phone number. You request a file (this post, for instance) from a server, and your computer tells the remote computer "Send that file to 192.168.0.1" (whatever your real IP address is), and the server sends out the file. This happens every time you read a web page, every time you send an email, or in this case, every time you connect to a Minecraft server. Your computer says "Hey, I'm 192.168.0.1, what's going on?"; the server says "Okay, sending a data packet to 192.168.0.1", and so on, many times a minute. Without that IP address, the server would have no way to communicate because it wouldn't know where to send anything.
There's nothing magic about your IP address. It's just that -- an address -- that a computer sends data to. By definition, every data request includes it. And anyone who runs a server can look at it, because it's in the server log files, as part of every single file fetch. That's what it's for. Minecraft server owners can see it. Web server owners can see it. Forum moderators can see it. In fact, pretty much everyone who has privileges of any type on a server can see it, because your IP address -- just an address to send data to, remember -- is a fundamental part of how the Internet works.
Your computer practically broadcasts your IP address. It's not secret, It's not valuable. It's nothing at all like your password. It's just an address to send data to.
What I find really ironic is that people think their IP addresses are some kind of secret while telling the world everything else about themselves. If your profile here says that your real name is Adrian, you're 15 years old, and you have a dog named Snootles, the odds are that you've said at least that much, if not more, on other websites elsewhere, and anyone who looks can find it. And by the time they're done, they'll know a whole lot more about you -- things I wouldn't want random strangers knowing about me -- than what address to send data packets to.
Dude... almost a year old, this post was.... try not to necro-post.
That said, Kythan is absolutely correct. Worrying about your IP being on the internet is like worrying that the guy you passed in traffic is going to write down your license plate number and look up your address to key your car in retaliation (not that the average civilian can do that... not the best example, but it gets the point accross)..

What are you talking about when you have your own server being hosted by you. And if a company is hosting it the IP from the company is there.....

I am owner of a towny server occasionally you got that one griefer who says
O I am going to DDoS you,
Here is some advice, find a hosting service, pay them the money to host the server
because most Hosting services come with DoS and DDoS protection.
Surprisingly also when you go to buy an Enjin website
you get DoS and DDoS protection for that as well.
didn't know hackers/modders/whatever you want to call them
went that low as to try and DDoS your website as well.
