Forgive me if I am wrong but from reading the threads here I have come away with the impression that the majority of players do not use the default texture pack. Yet almost every thread I read in the "recent updates" section of the board seems to concentrate endlessly on tiny problems about how any new added item to the game looks or its chosen color(s).
If I gave you current examples then this thread would probably get kicked into the Recent Updates forum and I don't want that, nor do I want an argument about Mojang's choices in colors or styles.
All I really want to know is how many people mostly use the default textures or mostly use some other texture pack.
Isn't it kind of wasteful for Mojang to concentrate too hard on getting every new texture "just right" via polls and community consensus if the majority of the community is not ever going to use them anyway?
I only play SSP, so I’ve made my own texture pack. I’ve pulled various textures out of other packs, and edited some myself. There is a certain look and feel I’m striving for. My pack isn’t 100%, so there are default textures here and there. As I find upgrades, or get around to creating my own, I’ll use the default. In some cases, the default is actually pretty good, and fits in nicely. With my old computer, using the default 8x textures was a requirement for decent performance, but now that I have a new screamer of a machine, I’m using 64x bit textures.

I use default almost 95% of the time. If I am trying to do a video series or something, I will use a TP, or just try out some new ones when I can be bothered.
I love the default pack, but I occasionally use Faithful, it's the only HD pack I can stand. HD packs don't feel right to me, and I just dislike the 16x16 non-default texture packs. I like shaders though, I think Shaders + Default pack > Texturepacks
Shaders are great, but texture packs drive me crazy. They all tend to look very sloppily put together, and don't really make minecraft feel like minecraft anymore. However, on one occasion, I played through Herobrine's Mansion, and was told to get the Atherys Ascended texture pack. I got it, and, yeah, it looks alright. I kept it for a week or so, but went back to default minecraft with shaders. The only environment mods that I use are MAtmos and a shader.
I like the default texture pack. It's the only one that I can really find in which I like the majority of the blocks. Texture packs usually have just one or two things that turn me off to the whole pack. I suppose I could just create my own, but hey, why reinvent the wheel?
I do have to admit though, using themed texture packs every once in a while just to see what it's like is pretty entertaining. And like others have said before me, the Faithful texture pack is very nice; if I HAD to use one, that would be it! It's very close to the original, just softer, almost.

No, but very very close. As of right now, I have been using a texture pack called Traditional Beauty by JoeDeluxe. Basically default textures, at 64x64 resoulution. The lines in all the textures are very crisp & defined. Love it. Before that, I was a faithful/faithful-venom 32/64x guy, and once in a while I feel like having things look different so I go with Sphax 128x. I have no reason to use anything else as those cover all my visual needs.
If you are a die-hard default fan through and through, but want more definition out of the textures(crisper lines/edges) take a look at this pack.

So then why didn't you vote "No" in the poll?

I use Faithful. c: It looks a lot like Minecraft's original textures, but it's cleaner and a bit more refined.
Hmm...I'm starting to think that just maybe all those endless arguments over the default textures are not quite so pointless anymore.

Did you know: Default causes no more lag than any othher 16X16 pack?
Anyways, I almost always use SMP's revival. I love it.
