If you guys dont know what mineshaft is, it is an app that launches minecraft for free (no payment)
Now, do you think that they are fair? cause it would be unfair cause we guys have to pay $27 or so to actually play the game but on the other hand it would be unfair if people with no money do not get to experience the awesomeness of minecraft.
What do you think?

Well... I find Minecraft interesting. But I did actually play the cracked version (When it was in the Alpha stages) sadly
So i think is like Notch (Or jeb ?) said. Crack the game. If you like it, buy it.
When Notch said that he was talking to someone who asked if they could have a free account before they pirated it. He told them to that person to just pirate it. Just because he told one person who was already going to pirate the game to do that doesn't mean he's actually fine with people pirating Minecraft.
If you want to know what Notch actually thinks about piracy read this. Or if your to lazy to read the entire thing I'll just quote part of it.
"Please don’t interpret this text as me being fine with people pirating Minecraft. I’d MUCH rather have people pay for it so I can reinvest in hiring people and developing more cool games in the future."
Considering that there's been a been an official demo version ever since beta 1.3 (http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/04/19/download-the-minecraft-demo/), I've never had any reason to download the cracked version. I played this demo and enjoyed it so much that I bought the game 5 minutes later.
thanks for the answers guys =) but what if a person downloaded (by torrent) the full version of minecraft but then he wouldnt buy the full version of minecraft? would you think its unfair cause they have all the previlages of the other people who actually bought minecraft? my friends and i have been debating on this for a LONG time.

Well. To say the truth, i could never buy Minecraft if i didn't played cracked version first.
Agreed. I wouldn't have blindly just bough it. Honestly I didn't think I was going to like it, but a couple friends told me to try (back in beta 1.8). I pirated it for about a week then bought it and recommended it to two of my closest friends. We've been playing on a legit server ever since.
Here's my opinion: If you pirate the game and like it enough to play it for more than a week, BUY THE GAME.
I personally think that pirating Minecraft sucks pig manure. If a person can afford internet to pirate Minecraft then that person can afford to buy Minecraft.
Well, this kind of games (minecraft, gamedev tycoon, dont starve and other "small games") arent very expensive as other games and IMHO are sometimes more fun or entertaining than more elaborated games so i see it as a good invertsment. By buying the game you are paying for the product of long work and effort and supporting the people that develops the game to make the game better.
Most of times, or at least for me, the demos arent enough to "test" and "taste" the game to say if it worths to be bought or not (small) game or not, so i prefer to test it freely and then see if for me worths it to put money and buy the game to have fun and not to buy it and then realize i will leave it in a month.
Legaly cracking the game or downloading a pirate version is considered ilegal and moraly, well, depends of what you consider whats good or wrong but i consider that in, in the end you do buy the game because you liked it, that moral line is very thin. In the other hand if you like the game and keep playing the pirate version i dont consider it something good, since i consider it like you are not apreciating somebodies work...
Cracked Minecraft users are no different to premium users. I used cracked MC until I bought it in 1.2.5. The only difference is cracked users obvious didn't pay but premium users did. Maybe they have financial problems or they can't buy it since it's not in stores (except for US).
Hey, I'm 13, nearly 14, and at least I actually WAITED and SAVED UP to buy Minecraft. Cheating Mojang out of order is just shameful. I hope the game gets DRM of some sort, and no I'm not kidding. Pirates don't deserve to play such an amazing game. Buy it or Die.
As we've seen with every single other game that has ever had DRM, all it does is hurt the people that actually bought it. Just like with Sim City, there will be ways around it.

Why would you need to download it by torrent if you can just download the normal installer and play in offline mode? Simply put if you don't purchase an account (the copy of the game is irrelevant) you do not get all of the features you would so the game is basically in demo mode anyways.

I see. Still, since theres an demo, you dont need to crack the game to see how it is.
And thanks for the quote part. After clicking the link, i just said "TL;DR".

I came through a torrented version. There were no demos then and I had heard of it through a friend, but didn't want to waste money on it just in case I didn't like it. Played the torrented copy for about a week and then bought an account. Personally, I have no qualms with people giving the game a trial by that method, but seeing as there are demos nowadays, it doesn't make much sense

SDM and Squid Army fanboys/girls. You're as ridiculous as each other. Gold=Butter=Gold. Why do you harp on about something as trivial as what people call it?
As someone who's not just bought minecraft, but also purchased it as a gift for two other people, I believe that there's a line between 'fair' and 'unfair' when it comes to pirating. For example, say you own a computer with rather meh specs for gaming, and you want to go ahead and see whether or not the game works adequetly to enjoy on your rig. In those circumstances, I believe that temporarily pirating the game to run it through it's paces and see whether or not your computer can handle it is morally fine, if not legally, so long as after you've got a good feel for whether or not the game will run to your satisfaction, you either delete or buy the game, as appropriate for your experience with it.
As you can imagine based on my remarks, I'm a firm believer in demo versions of games, but frankly, a lot of demos just don't give you enough information to know whether or not you'd like to truly buy the game in question. Their either too limited in terms of features, too short, or don't tax your system as much as the game would in more intense portions contained in later content to give you a good feel for whether or not the product is truly for you. As I never really used Minecraft's demo (watching Let's Plays is what got me into Minecraft), I'm not really sure whether or not it fits my personal criteria as a 'good' demo or a 'bad' demo, so I can't really comment toward sthat.
Unfair ? Hahaha, Pirates are freaking maggots, eating away the flesh of hard working developers. Die Pirates! And no justification justificates quasi theft. I was taught not to steal stuff and I won't whatsoever. Someone of my classmates PIRATES EVERY game he sees and justificates it with being legal (I live in Switzerland and downloading from a torrent is legal. I dunno why ...)
Grrrrrrrrrrrr.
