I think the real question is Why not everyone be so obsessed with this game?
But seriously, the separate aspects of the game may appeal to many different kinds of people. Whether you like action, (combat) building, (creative) or plain old surviving (survival), nearly everyone can find some part of the game that people enjoy. I am not an extreme gamer, but Minecraft seemed like a good game when I bought it back in it's early stages. And I can't stop playing it, it has just such a magnificent concept.
Not everyone is obsessed and wants to constantly hear about it.
This is the same as it was with Secondlife.
When it came to release time it was unprecidented, so people were drawn into it for the functions that no other game had all of. It got huge, People got bored but the real core players stuck it out. Then player made content boomed, New fanboys appeared. some old came back and became core players. It has gotten so big, that it spawned content thieves and copybot. Then the imitators came out. some players left because of the "grass is greener" effect. Guess what. Still has its core players, STILL adds content, and There will ALWAYS Be people so geeked they are annoying.
But remember this, Minecraft was something no one else thought to try out before. It allows uber levels of Creatvity and does so with in a way we all can enjoy. We have content creators and people so willing to dive the depths of the features like Sethbling that Minecraft will have new and interesting things in the future.
A lot of people are obsessed with Minecraft due to the many possibilities, addictive gameplay, frequent updates, and modding support.
I didn't see an actual answer in this thread so here you go.
Well the OP's question seemed a little rhetorical and more of a way of grabbing attention to initiate discussion. I don't think they were looking for one straight forward answer.

Humanity is the creation of Logic and Emotion, Calculation and Imagination, Cold Analysis and Blind Faith. This is why I believe it is a strange Human that would prize one while shunning the other. For a calculator can do math just as well as you, but a calculator can not use math to make the world a better place.
Something about a buggy game coded in java making more than AAA releases makes me think about games like castle crashers or super meat boy that sell okish but have a dedicated fanbase and decent community. I originally thought MC was like that when I first played. Then PE came out... and now EVERYONE plays it.

I still don't see how that is a problem. If anything it means you have something you care about that you can share with some one else.

Here is a review of MC that I totally agree with: But I feel that people shouldn't be obsessed and make life like trying to find a few golden people in a sea of yellow ones that aren't complete addicts.

Really? your source for a good review on anything is IGN? And that really has nothing to do with my post. More people playing a game you like, means you are more likely to find people you can find agreeable to talk about that game with.

As one who is a bit older than the norm, I never really hear this kind of chatter about Minecraft come up, but this kind of stuff goes for all games really. Most likely in your school there is a pack of kids that play Minecraft so they socialize with each other. For me it's about military shooters, i.e. Call of Duty, but when I'm in public areas when there's a bunch of teenagers, different games that get referenced, Starcraft, League of Legends, Minecraft, Battlefield all the like. Gaming has become more integrated into our society more than ever. To be honest, I don't see why anyone would be making a deal about it. Their talking about their favorite game, let them enjoy it. Minecraft is awesome, and if it's being talked about outside the net then great for the game and Mojang!

Well I can imagine it being something like discussions about hunting out here. Hunting in Idaho is huge, everyone talks about it, from adults to teenagers to elementary kids. I've never hunted in my life, always seemed like a waste of time, but it is literally impossible to live 1 day out here without the talk of who hunted what or what season it is. Yes, it can be annoying, but it's no different if you were to talk about someone about your favorite hobby. Let them enjoy it even if you don't have quite the interest as they do.
Look, people have their own opinions. They can dislike when people talk or obsess about a game if they want. Instead of getting defensive, just say something like "In my opinion I think that bla bla bla..." It's much better to do that.
I feel you bro. There's this kid in my school that makes his answers in a question Minecraft related. Some kids literally bring their USB Drives to school, and play Minecraft when they can. I used to love this game back in Early Beta, but now all these immature idiots who are completely obsessed about MC and harshly insult you if you think MC isn't the best game ever, I really don't like accommodating with the community anymore.
I only use Minecraft as a creative outlet or when Im in desperate need of something to do I havent booted up my PE in a month or so but I updated it so I didnt have to later, and the only reason I play PE is because our internet enabled computer is most likely dying a slow death, and $27 seems to expensive for a game like this added on to the fact that people want you to donate to their servers for some useless bonus and I only know this because I watch people like Zek, even then, thats because its funny not addicting. If you make it big then you can be obsessed until then, please leave the rest of us alone! I can find much better things to do like completing my Final Fantasy VII game and other PlayStation games when I was still way younger (Im 16) since Im the same age as the real annoyances and playing severly outdated games I do consider myself different even in public Im different, but thats just who I am, maybe these hyperactives are just feeling leftout (where I like to be XD) so they resort to these tactics to be in the normal crowd. If you took the time to read all of that I applaud you for having the sense to read every detail and not think "Great some long post that means nothing"

That hurts me.
The word you are looking for is associating. As in not wanting to be considered a part of. Which is almost depressingly ironic considering you are on the minecraft forums yet say you don't want to be a part of the minecraft community.

You don't know how it has become where I live.
