As much as i would love to go back to the beta times, I like the new things. Though there is consequences for the things you like, Like i love Redstone blocks, but i hate The hunger, exp, and the other stuff. i would love it to go back to plain Health. oh well. Good bye Fellow veteran.
I care so now your statement is false. Jetra, perhaps you could create a multiplayer alpha 1.2.6 server. I'm sure many people including myself would like that. I hate modern day minecraft and I'm not sure why I still play it. I can't even stand single player anymore.
So coal is useless because you can see in the dark? Ever heard of mobs? Don't like the brightness bar or the night vision potion? Don't use them, if you find them overpowered. That's the beauty of this game, you aren't obligated to anything.
I don't see how mining has become a lesser aspect at all. You still go mining if you want resources, and there are even more ores now. Your "problem" is that the game now has more aspects than just that and you are too close-minded to realize that the game doesn't get worse if it has more aspects.
Close minded is to accept everything without question. It takes a strong will to admit when enough is enough.
I understand everything Jetra. I still miss the beta times of minecraft myself. If you need to go away from Minecraft, then do so.
So I don't have to use hunger and the new terrain? If only I could do that.
That is plain rude. If you have nothing good to type, don't type anything at all.
I hope I'm not the only person here who can't play a fresh map from scratch for more than the first night.
I really don't know what happened to Minecrafts magic. I guess before everything it has now, it was "I wonder how I could build a better way to defend my house" than "Lets mine insane amounts of iron in 5 minutes to craft Armour"
The thinking and creativity of the game has been taken out of it in my opinion. Before you start, more =/= better. Don't say "they have added things so how could it get worse", because they have removed a hell of a lot too. Old generation, various (amazing) bugs that were considered as features, things that were being taken out if they were bad, and not removed because they wanted to update it.
Instead of having to build a booster, now you craft a track with easy to get resources. Instead of making a cool boat elevator you have to use ladders or stairs (incoming things that you really wouldn't want to build legitimately like pistol elevators).
I really can't put my finger on it, but if I'm getting bored of Minecraft but not other mods like Tekkit or FTB (which is just like a few updates) then there has to be something wrong with the way Mojang are making their game. It can't be good if Jeb is asking "why isn't this a mod" about his own game.
Nostalgia is the answer. That's why i thought Minecraft was so good when i started it, going back to it i didn't. And i've built plenty of piston elevators legimately, don't know what you're going on about. And huh, you can still make a boat elevator?
I actually like the idea of someone making an alpha 1.2.6 server. Who needs an anti-griefer whitelist when we have the downgrading factor, which repels ignorant children and lazy griefers easily?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.
I still feel like minecraft is still very much a sandbox game. I don't really get your point with minecraft used to be a game about mining and crafting. You still have to do that a lot don't you? I will agree that the nether is being ignored with new features too minor. Oceans are kind of ignored too.
Well I'm really glad you put thought into saying this and said it in a mature way.
Misused the word, i'm sorry. English isn't my native language.
Well, let's ignore that and give me another "valid" point.

You're looking for needles in straw. It's not about the nostalgia, I've simply just don't want to update anymore at this point.

I believe i've been trying to force you into my opinions i little too much. You probably don't think the game is terrible, just not what it used to be. Sorry, i understand not everyone finds the new updates pleasing and i respect your opinion, but i just thought some of your points with the coal for example are a little silly.

Maybe....
I don't know. Perhaps just going back might cure me of the "popularity' of the game.
I've never understood people hating on the minecraft updates. Minus Herobrine (and maybe not even him, as he's already been "removed" 3 times I believe) nothing has ever been taken out of minecraft. At its base, it is still the exact same game that it was when it started. 1) find block. 2) gather block. 3) use block. I respect your opinion, of course, but calling out developers for updating a game is a rare, and to be frank, backwards approach to what's happening. If the updates were turning the entire game upside down, I could see that, but that simply isn't the case here. Maybe it can be used as an "RPG maker". Why is that a problem? I'd think the key words there are "can" not "RPG maker". Maybe it should be considered that the updates aren't the reason for a loss of interest in the game, rather, the "2 years" has become the issue.
I donno. Just my thoughts.
Ok. That was going to be my argument, but then I saw the first poster say the same thing in a simplified form and the completely bullheaded answer you gave him.
There goes that chance for an intelligent argument.

It's not too late. Let me help. I wasn't calling out the developers per se. It just seems that they're taking community input more often these days. In fact, while I was browsing reddit, several of the suggestions were selected by Dinnerbone. Sure enough, guess what was in the lastest snapshot?
How does added a Redstone Chest make your games RPG... Huh?
So confused.
Trapped Chests are one of the main corner stones of standard RPGs. Include that with swords, bows and arrows, experience points, potions and enchanting and you can begin to see the threads that being pulled to force Minecraft into a generic slot that is being crowded by many other titles.
First of all, adding RPG elements to a game with CREATIVE MODE logically can not take away from the sandbox elements of the game. Then, you go on to complain, after stating that it's losing its sandboxitude, that it's becoming some kind of D&D RPG Maker. That kind of sounds like a sandbox style game to me. THEN, you complain that it's becoming a toolbox rather than its own game. What are you trying to say exactly? Do you want it to be more free? More linear? You're not making sense.
Additionally, the Nether just got an added ore in the very update you're bashing. Doesn't sound like neglect to me.
Coal and iron were always easy to find; do you even mine?
You're just complaining about select things you don't like - inane things, at that.

I think we have a fundamental difference in philosophy, here. You see, I am of the personal opinion that when a developer takes a community suggestion and implements it into the game, that's a sign of growth. On the developer's part for openly taking ideas, on the community's part for being able to suggest said ideas, and on the game's part because it literally grows with these additions. Some (like yourself) might argue that this particular growth is a bad thing, but I'll just have to disagree. It's not as though these additions are anything more than cosmetic. Sure, they added in new villages, but there's an option in the world screen to turn them off. Sure, they made some materials drop in new places, but they didn't eliminate the old ways of getting to them. Just about every problem you had with the game could fall into the category of "cosmetic", even if they are player-added. The only legitimate arguments against this I've ever seen (like, say, hunger) weren't listed as the reason behind you leaving, so they are moot.
And coming back to the main problem, that Minecraft can be used as an "RPG maker". That somehow, because it's possible the game is automatically lesser for it. I absolutely refuse to hear this argument. Minecraft could be used as an RPG maker, an architectural design machine, a PvP engine, a survival game and so much more. Just because something's possible doesn't automatically make it the default. Just because I can use bacon grease to grease my bike chain doesn't mean I have to.
I just fundamentally don't grasp the argument that because something becomes possible, the rest of the game suffers. Especially to the point of leaving because it is no longer fun.

The problem with community suggestions is that too much of it will turn it into something familiar. For example, there was a game called MAG that came out for the PS3. The developers heard people complaining the guns were too accurate, so they decided to add spray like in every other FPS. People often don't like to be far outside "comfort zones" so when there is a suggestion board, they try to fit in with what they believe it should be because it's familiar.
A while back, there was a post. A lot of the players were saying that Minecraft is a Medieval RPG game. Even when I pointed out that Minecraft had no theme, the forced into that corner. How many servers do you see with Medieval themes? Plenty. How about a modern approach? I can count them with two hands.
Falling asleep at keyboard, but going to try to defend argument anyway.
The thing with me leaving is I wanted Minecraft. Not D&D. And fine, you want me to list everything? (Checks clock) Eh forget sleep.
Okay here we go:
==============
Hunger: Didn't like it at first, but then got used to it. However, now that the spawning rules have changed, it's difficult to find food. This isn't inherently bad, but I don't really like the mechanic...This is not why I am leaving
Cobblestone Texture: I liked the old one because it was colorful and designed. Once again, I got used to it, but this is not the reason I am leaving
Chests: They got shrunk down a bit, added an animation and sound. Love it, yet not the reason.
Rarity: Now here is where I tear into the current version with a razor and magnifying glass. Iron was far rarer back in the old days. Now, you can get iron armor in about 5 minutes if you're good enough. (I got lucky in 90 seconds). You'd be lucky if you found a full set of iron armor before Full Release 1.0. To add to that, zombies drop iron tools, skeletons drop enchanted bows, Zombie Pigmen drop gold nuggets, Witches drop glowstone dust and redstone, Wither skeletons drop coal. There is no value in ANYTHING anymore save for the beacon block and emeralds.
The problem I have is that everything that was non-renewable is now renewable. Gold apples? I've got a stack of them. Nothing is special, nothing is sacred anymore. How would you like it if, say, they decided to make diamonds easier to obtain by making them spawn near lava sources? I wouldn't like it because its devalued that way. If Jeb were to remove apples and gold nuggets and make gold apples found only in Mineshafts, wouldn't you be thrilled at the challenge? I would be.
It's that feeling of power, of getting that super special item. Because these super special items (Gold apples and Mushroom Stews) are now gained by all, I feel cheated as a gamer that things are becoming easier to acquire. Enchanted books, while nice, are currently the newest item to devalue the game a little more. No longer slaving at the enchantment table, just make a bunch of books and you can have a Super Sword in a short time.
What I am saying is that community input is nice, but the game should not be dependent on it. I'm sure Jeb has his own ideas, but he's putting them aside for the sake of us, the players.
I meant worthless. I misspoke. Wait...Coal IS useless. Night vision potion plus the addition of the Brightness bar.
Or, you know, charcoal. That made the game a ton easier. I personally love the RPG element, kind of like an RPG that you create the storyline yourself, although I think Yogscast has taken it a bit far...

I think it just got too big for them to handle, so they just dropped it altogether, which is a shame.
1. I have a junk computer and 2. You tell me.
