I agree it needs to be harder, but the thing is how can you make it harder without it becoming just plain hard and not fun? It's not fun if a skeleton does 3 hearts of damage per arrow, you get yourself caught up with a skeleton and a spider and four hits and you're dead. If you make ores harder to find then you spend your time digging which just gets plain boring. I really think some sort of quest system should be implemented, one where people can develop quest packs sort of like mods or texture packs or maps and you just install it and ta-da, you have a fresh line of quests and tasks you can do.

Check out my Lets Play! It would be much appreciated! :3
I dont think its too easy. If you know etho as he says there are 3 diffrent class in minecraft PVP, Redstone and Building. Redstone and building will never get that easy i suppose. But what can they do to make the game harder in survival. They should add a new mob like wither skeloton to the overworld or a new place like nether.
Playing since Beta 1.5, I would say no, I don't believe it has became too easy. I can barely find enough coal to bake the bricks for my house. Iron did become a lot easier to find, but I remember how much a pain it was to get enough iron for minecart rails. You also have to remember you still have to branch mine to get diamonds, because caves generally don't go deep enough.
When it comes to the XP/Enchanting system, I feel it is justified. You had to kill a ton of mobs and then you might get an awful enchantment. That is just unreasonable. If you don't like the new enchanting system then Maplestory is the game for you.
The only unjustified thing is the armour. A creeper can blow up right in front of you and you armour would barely get a scratch, that is just too easy. Though you have to consider that it is not uncommon for the game to throw four creepers and two skeletons at you, even in a lit up cave.

Caves do go deep enough to find diamonds. I am fine with the XP/Enchanted system. But you are right about the armor, its just too overpowering in my case.

That's what I am talking about! There needs to be a way to make it harder without making it too hard.
I do actually find the game a bit easy, mostly because it is very easy to defend yourself from mobs. If you make a 2 block high wall of any block around your house for example you're protected from any mobs except spiders. The thing I would want is more improved AI or abilities for mobs. I also think it's easy when you mine. If you got full iron armor and a skeleton jumps right in front of you, you might take 1-3 hearts of damage then you've killed it. And if you encounter a larger group of mobs, you can easily outrun them. What I do find hard and challenging however is getting to the End. Killing those blazes and wither skeletons is a pain in the ass...
Yes in my opinion that is the only hard thing about minecraft, killing blazes & wither skellies, getting to the End, and beating the End.

They only spawn in the nether. O_o Or do you mean a NEW place in the nether?

They usually only go deep enough for a small section. You still have to branch mine to find those deep caves.
Basically, there is little to no diversity between difficulty levels. The only difference is that mobs deal more damage on higher difficulties and that zombies break wooden doors on hard. If you can kill a mob easily on easy, you can kill a mob easily on hardcore as well. Since mobs are so easy, you find yourself dying more often from odd circumstances (creeper blows up the ground and drops you in to lava, or a mob knocks you off a cliff) than you do from a straight-up fight with a zombie.
There's also the matter of a really weak combat system. Everything consists of spamming the mouse button, as that's the fastest way to kill a mob. Similarly, the mobs themselves exhibit a weak AI and will pretty much always attempt to charge you down and attack with it's only attack (as such most encounters will be very similar to another). The mobs themselves also have a very low number of attacks, maxing out at two attacks... for the blaze. Every other mob in the game either has one attack, no attacks, or two in very odd circumstances (skeletons can swing a sword but they don't spawn with them, and they can only attack with a sword if they have a sword). Even then, all the Blaze gets is a fireball and contact damage. As such, the most difficult encounters are not the bosses who have one powerful attack, but the groups of minor mobs that essentially combine in to one big mob with multiple attacks. (Yes, this means that a zombie, a creeper, and a skeleton in one encounter are more difficult than the Wither. The wither is not a challenge. He is a gear check.)
Hardcore does nothing to add any more difficulty but fake difficulty. For permadeath, there's a fine line in the sliding scale of how often you die; on the "you die frequently" side, permadeath adds real difficulty, but on the "you die rarely" side, it only adds fake difficulty. Minecraft is far in to the "you die rarely" side assuming you've been playing for more than a couple of days, as there isn't enough variety in mobs and mob attacks for death to be frequent. As such, you won't be dying all that often and when you do die it was from absurdity that all it does is you off, especially when you can't recover the world. In fact, the hardest thing about hardcore is not the permadeath (because that only changes the game upon death), but that you can't switch to easy or normal difficulty to get rid of those zombies breaking down your doors in the odd event that you didn't make a fence or something.
TL;DR: A weak combat system and a poor variety in mobs and their attacks. Hardcore is not much harder than hard mode and is really only an annoyance.

Thanks, you already covered my problems with the combat system (not being sarcastic here). Now all I have to talk about is the entire rest of the game...

Yeah most of the games aspects (mining, farming, pvm) are too simple and could use some work.
It's only easy because you don't set your goals high enough. It'll obviously be boring if all you want in minecrft is a house.
Give an instance where Minecraft is challenging.
As (if I recall) someone said earlier, yes, building in Minecraft is challenging. But no, Minecraft is not a building game; it is a sandbox game, and Minecraft in particular contains things that appear to intend to please everyone; you've got building (in both traditional building and redstone circuitry), combat, and exploration. However, the only aspect of Minecraft that truly excels over other games is building. The combat is pathetic, ranging from mediocre at best (fighting ghasts and the Enderdragon) to a joke at worst (the Wither). Exploration is almost nil due to the terrain, and even if you like it, there's no denying that it is incredibly predictable (not to mention that exploring all of the structures besides mineshafts is incredibly easy due to how combat works).
So, Minecraft should offer a (optional) challenge of some sort in every aspect of the game, or at the very least should be fun. Currently, the only aspects of the game that offer one are building and survival if you are a newbie. In terms of combat and death, it simply doesn't offer one. What if there are some players that want to experience a challenge in those areas? Well... sucks to be you, as it seems like the closest opportunity for a combat update is 1.6 or 1.7 (more likely 1.7 since Mojang will hopefully work on terrain in 1.6)
TL;DR (because I rambled again): Give some examples. While some of the deeper features in Minecraft such as building can be hard, building is just about the only challenge in the game that isn't self-imposed or part of the mild learning curve.
While Minecraft shouldn't be as hard as IWBTG or maybe Dwarf Fortress, it is definitely way too easy. I see threads popping up all the time nowadays complaining about the difficulty. Why? I don't know for sure, but perhaps it's because Mojang is adding all sorts of ways to make Minecraft's real difficulty lessen such as enchanting, hunger, sprinting, and the new armor system, yet isn't adding in new things that add difficulty back in. And when Mojang does include something that makes the game harder like Endermen or abandoned mineshafts, it's usually either optional/easy to avoid or adds fake difficulty (and sometimes both; i'm looking at you, Wither).

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?

Dwarf Fortress is one of the hardest games I've ever played. Mainly because of the hard to understand graphics. Also I too hope that 1.6 is for terrain.

At this point we can say we all have...
