There's too much focus on difficulty here. Minecraft is not supposed to be "hard," per se, it's supposed to be fun. Minecraft asks you to come up with your own challenges and to make the game into what you want. That's why there's such a vibrant modding community.
Exactly. If you don't have a project to work on, you will invariably get bored and leave. Sure, you could dig a hole in the ground and hide there forever, but that's not very fun, and is not how to play Minecraft.
There are many mods out there that alter difficulty. While those are still good, to me it just doesn't feel like minecraft any more...
If you don't like it you can just use mods, you already gave an answer to yourself.
Dig 3 blocks and cover the top block? well you can still starve but thats gonna kill you if you play hard mode.
Minecraft isn't too easy, its just your imagination maybe you were a coward on survival and you don't even try to fight mobs that's why they don't even mean anything to you
Uh huh, it's too easy. I don't like the way a suit of plain iron armor turns you from normal into Superman and just forget about enchanted diamond, that makes you totally invulnerable! Mobs need to be smarter too, I'm not talking 20% smarter I'm talking about squad tactics and stuff! But at least the AI is getting better.

"Sometimes, I just wanna give up, say 'I'm done with this mess' and go to bed. But you know what; you can't shrug off your responsibilities. You got to pull yourself up and meet the challenges head on. That's the only way you're gonna get ahead in life."
So your telling us that you want minecraft to change their difficulty
e.g.
Have to dig 500 blocks to get coal
Have to dig 1000 blocks to get iron
Have to dig 10000 blocks to get diamond
and have the creeper explosion radius gigantic so we will die if the creeper explodes 1000 meters away from us?
No not like that at all. I want the game to be less easy and also have more challenges to go through.I want to be able to explore a cave and not come out with 2 stacks of iron 4 stacks of coal and 3 Diamonds in one day.

Yes that's what I'm talking about! Mobs used to be scary but now I can kill off an army with a wooden sword! Adding armour to mobs does not help. ._.
I don't understand how Minecraft has gotten easier. The ability to dig a hole into a mountain and cover it up has been there since the introduction of Survive mode. Creatures have NEVER been able to enter a well designed house. Strip mining at level 11-12 has ALWAYS yielded a high level of diamonds. Grinding mobs for resources has ALWAYS been an option. Etc...
People always seem to go on about how the game is easier/ruined etc. but forget how the game has become harder over the updates. Updates such as:
Hunger System; Health system tied to the Hunger System; New Mobs (Endermen specifically); updated pathfinding for AI; Zombies breaking down wood doors; ghasts still blow stuff up; Hording Zombie pigmen; A FRIGGIN DRAGON!; Tool wielding mobs; Witches; that new super mob thingy; blazes; creatures carrying ENCHANTED FRIGGIN' WEAPONS! etc...
It is just a matter of perspective. The more of these stupid threads I read in these forums the more I realise it isn't that the game has gotten easier, casual, boring, repetitive etc. It is that YOU as a player have gotten better at the game. You know why you miss the "Early days of Minecraft" when you roamed around at night and got ambushed and got the living lights scared out of you? Because it was a new experience. One that no game has given us before. You know what has changed since alpha 1.2 in that regard? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Roam around in the dark, the exact same thing will happen to you. The only difference? You already expect it. You know how to fight it off. You know how to defend against it and therefore the challenge is not reduced, but your experience in relation to that challenge is increased.
Do you remember the first time you fell in Lava/ Magma and lost your items? I'm sure you have learned your lesson since then and now carry a bucket full of water with you. (And you STILL may fail at times). Do you remember the first time a creeper snuck up behind you and exploded and you died? Yeah you learned your lesson didn't you "Sssssss" means "RUN!!!" not "what is that noi...." And I'm sure you STILL get caught in a few explosions now and then (even though it is less deadly because you now wear some armor). Do you remember the first time you ran out of torches while exploring some caves? Yeah I'm sure you bring stacks of wood and a crafting table with you now don't you. (And I'm sure you have forgotten this at some point.) Remember the first time you dug straight down and ended up in a cavern full of baddies, learned your lesson there didn't you buddy.
Honestly I can go on about this. My point is thus: The game is still fundamentally the same as it has been since survival was introduced onwards. Taken from the main Mincraft site "Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. At night monsters come out, make sure to build a shelter before that happens." That little synopsis has been there since the beginning of time. Please I invite you to tell me in which update specifically the game has not held on to, changed, or deviated from, any one of those tenants. Just mention one, and I'll eat my hat. Really just one. My Hat. I'll eat it. Just one
These threads are the reason why I seldom come to this corner of the internet. I have been playing Minecraft since late 2010. I have played every single update since that time. You know what has changed since that time? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Minecraft is still the same game we have all come to love and cherish. Yet despite all of this, a few entitled people keep ruining the community for others. I tried being a part of this community. I did. But the constant negativity over the game just brings you down man.
There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism. Fanboyism is also a bad thing for any product. My main issue with this community is that people fail to see what the company is doing for its player base. When was the last time Bioware listened to its community? Activision? EA? Yet here is Mojang a small company supporting a game it has been developing for three years and all it asked for was a one time contribution of what, $25? Are you serious? And you complain?
OP please note, though it may sound like it. this post has not been a denunciation of you. Rather it is a denunciation of what I feel is the problem with this community and I just have too much time on my hands this Friday night. The main issue you are experiencing is that you have effectively "learned" the game. You have surpassed the curve, therefore, as a sandbox game, Minecraft might not feel like it has much to offer. It is somewhat similar to other such games such as Dwarf Fortress (yes there is a curve, yes you can surpass it) most Paradox games (Once you can WC with Ryuku, what do you do?) SimCity, Tropico, Railroad Tycoon, etc. Now that you have surpassed the curve YOU need to make your own challenges. YOU need to install some mods; go out exploring; Make a new world; play in a multiplayer server; play some other indie games (I suggest Kerbal Space Program). As much as we might want Minecraft (or any other entertainment) to be our end all be all there is a simple fact of life. It will never be like that. Minecraft will never fulfill every itch we have, it will never satisfy us 100%, we will never be able to enjoy nothing but Minecraft because we are not designed that way. For a month, just try to eat your favorite food non-stop, then make a forum post on how you don't like it anymore and how it has lost its taste. The reality is that you have lost your taste for it.
With the recent changes to enchanting i find minecraft much easier (xp from ores/cooking and level 30 for max level enchants). Strip mining at 11 produces a lot of diamonds + easy accses to a looting pickaxe fairly early on. So yeh ide say vanilla is easy =P. But thats just one aspect of vanilla minecraft and i play with a lot of mods so i it hardley matters to me =P

Geez man its just a friendly question, although you are right in some aspects. I'm not asking for Mojang to make the game harder by adding new mobs and stuff, I just want them to make it so I have to be afraid to walk out at night with no armor again. Yes I know MC is a sandbox game, but this topic is about the survival aspect of the game.

Yeah I raged a little on the OP. When i went back I realised he wasn't really being negative at all. It's just that I logged into this forum for the first time in like 6 months and I saw like 6-8 threads talking about how the update stinks, not giving considerate advice for how to make it better.

Minecraft is meant for creativity and expressing your imagination. Technically, there is no "Winning" the game.
That's not the point. I am talking about the "survival" aspects only. Yes I DO know that MC is a creative game where you can express your self, but that's not what I'm talking about.

Most people I know like to play survival because it's casual, not difficult.
Minecraft wasn't intended to be a super hard game. It's mostly meant for the building aspect, not the surviving aspect. If you have to go through armies of creepers just to get a couple of pieces of cobble, you don't want to play anymore. In fact, Minecraft has probably been getting harder. They removed the glitches that can clone blocks, made a smarter monster AI, and all of the things you pointed out were either already there, or were a lot more easy on you. I know there's also satisfaction, but you can't have it so hard it would take you months to find iron. The you would have no satisfaction, because you wasted months on finding it. there would be depression and anger instead.

Pointing out fallacies to undermine an argument is also a fallacy...
