These kinds of people are almost always between the ages of 8-14, and it's sad how much it happens. It's the fact that they're young. Adolescents go through a stage in their life where they act conscending, like everybody is lower class then them, or inferior to them. Therefore, they see the need to insult others so they can feel in a position of power.
In comprehendable words, they're immature brats who think they're better then everyone else. I am thirteen and I am a male, but do not think for a second that I support this kind of thing.
Quick Edit: Let me add: because of the young base of players on Minecraft, the administration of multiplayer servers are often young. Because a lot of children, again, go through this stage, they think the same way and try to do nothing to stop it. This is probably a bad example, but in a video of the griefing team Team Avolition, they were sexually harassing somebody and the moderator online didn't do anything to stop it, even typing in messages such as "lol" from time to time.
I've tried to stand up for people when they're being picked on in servers, but it never worked. It's one of hte reasons I started hosting my own, because I got tired of seeing people being picked on and made fun of and no admins doing anything about it (or even joining in! Disgusting). I'm really glad that people are trying to bring this sexism to the attention of the community, because it's not only bad for the people it's directed towards, but it bothers the people that see it happening.
I hate to hate, but you all need to quit complaining! If someone ****s with you, give them an earful, then ban them/ ignore them! if you dont like a server, go to a different one, its that simple..... am i right??
Genesis 3:16 "Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee."
...What the Nether. I was wishing them luck as they attempted to keep people from harassing them for being what they are. Yeesh. That verse is talking about something COMPLETELY different. But to satisfy you, I'll edit my post.
Well, if you guys check my profile at Posts, you'll see I've applied for Mod on a Bukkit server which has rules against sexual harassment :D. I hope I get accepted. Because finally, I can get on a server without sexual harassment
Girls are people too.
I'm a guy but I get annoyed when girls are treated like this. If I was a girl I know I wouldn't want to be.
The server I used to frequent never really had this problem since half the people on it were kids, and that's the only good thing about kids.
The reason that guys tend to be creepy around the girls is because they are young. Guys from the ages of 10 to 14 are starting to go through physical and mental changes. They start to have feelings for girls that they can't really explain. Normally, guys tend to bottle up these feelings and keep it to themselves because they are embarrassed. That's why guys go through that "Ew, girls have cooties" phase. They don't want people knowing how they truly feel about girls.
With the internet, and games like minecraft. Guys are able to express those feelings because they know that they are completely anonymous and most of the time, will not have any consequences. However, because of the young age, they don't know where to draw the line between flirting and sexual harassment.
Eventually, most guys grow out of this phase. However, there are still some that will never will.
Girls should be treated differently by boys and not to harass them. I agree completely what I just said.
I'm a boy, and have a sister that plays MC as well. The boys on a server we joined was annoying. My sister ignored them anyways. After a day has passed, our house was greifed. The boys are getting pretty annnoying to my sister and therefore I killed the boys because:
- I was guarding the house completely, trying not to fall asleep.
- I saw the boys enter our bedroom and tried to have sex with my sister.
EDIT: I've changed my mind about the thing I wrongly said. Therefore I needed to change it.
Because seeing a woman playing a good game would immediately rush at you because they are lonely or unlucky in life plus if see a girl i would not give a damn because i want to the enjoy experience with anybody regardless of age religion or race (unless you annoy the living **** out of me)
anyways, the internet is full of bastards that feel the need to fulfill fantasies and urges that they cannot in real life. because of the inherit seperation between the people through the internet, gives the illusion that one can do what ever they want, behave however they want without consequences. this, for the most part, is sadly true. and the problem is exacerbated by pre-teen youth. prolly one of the best ways to avoid this is to find a group of people that are significantly more mature than the rest of the internet and hang out with them. this can be hard, but once you find your group, youll have friends and protection from such problems in the future.
all those kids need a spanking...though they prolly would enjoy it too much

I know how you feel, I have many young female players on my server, and some are 7 - 12 and guys will hit on them, or be compleatly sexist. Since I use MCBans I global ban them them for sexism. I am VERY strict when it comes to treating everyone equal on my server.

I agree with what everyone is saying but I also think this works the other way too. Because of Stereotypes, even a guy in a girl skin can be give items when they join a new Minecraft server just because they are "weak". I am all for this thread, but Its turning into random people hating at guys in general.
Hmm, OP's story is rather disconcerting and rather depressing.
I find such behavior deplorable and only serves to make gaming and the internet even MORE of a sausage fest. As it slowly drives females legitimately interested in games away from the pastime. I wonder if these under sexed over horny dweebs know how much damage they are causing to males overall reputation.
1st: What I see in (online-)games are avatars. The are gender neutral to me, and I see them as genderless. As long as they act normal towards me, I'm acting normal towards them. Though, if they say "I'm a girl" all I think is "That's okay, nice to meet you!"
It's great you are like that, however I'd just like to point out that, in my own experience, all it took was me wearing a female skin; I never announce, "I'm female!". In fact, one time someone saw what looked like a girl skin under my armor and asked to me take it off to look at it. I spawned in on another server, someone saw me there and announced, "Hey, we have a girl here!!"
About your fourth point - I agree, this is not the way to do it. But the more the community as a whole discourages this behaviour - with added server rules, warnings or just simple explanations - the less likely it is to happen, if people see they won't get away with it. The Internet can be a dirty toilet but that doesn't mean one game's community must resignedly swim in it rather than try to rise above it.
It's more of a shame that it happens on a game like this because it's one of those few that can be enjoyed by the very young to the very old and together with your family.
Usually any girls I meet or hear about in video games gets treated like a goddess by all the boys playing because I guess they want to impress them. You'd be surprised at how many guys pretend to be girls in MMOs and only play girl characters because they get special benefits from other guys in the game.
Honestly, I find both situations sickening. The only way to overcome this mess is for more girls to play games and convince guys there is no difference between the genders and how much respect people deserve. But that itself is a vicious cycle, as most girls are drawn away from gaming because they are treated differently, so how can more girls be tempted to play when they are constantly being pushed away?
Sorry that im going a little off topic here but the smae thing happens to me all the time when i say im 11 i dont get why people have to be such ass holes all the time i mean realy is it that big of a problem its just how old i am and iv problebly been playing mc more then 1/2 of the people on this forum right now.
Most of the people who do this are cowards who don't have the balls or aren't allowed to say things to them in real life. It's because of this behaviour that people want to change the Internet. The Internet has brought back stereotypes from years long past, and I find that really sad. How can anyone feel better about themselves by bullying and insulting others over a network?
Do you not feel that this topic was finished for discussion on about page 5-6 and the rest have been just re hashing the same discussion and people having arguments?
The op was given advice on how to handle the situation. She got sympathy and understanding, and from other people she got their explination as to why she was, in their opinion, making the problem worse...
There really is nothing else to discuss. If you don't like someones behaviour report it. If that does nothing then walk away from the server... and or keep your head down.
YOU CAN NOT POLICE THE INTERNET. You can only avoid the a holes.
This thread should of been locked 30 pages ago.
On the bright side, it kinda made some admins aware of their server rules. =V
1. Do not brag that you're a girl. Female gamers are very common, you're not special in any way. You're making yourself bait for trolls and the alike. I often get shoved in the face by females saying "Hey I'm a girl and I play videogames, I'm soo cool yadda-yadda-bla-bla-bla.."
2. If you join a server/clan that got rules against discrimination, and you see people discriminating you because you're female, contact an admins or mod. If they don't do ****, you leave, research a bit and find a popular, serious server that follow the rules.
3. Often, female gamers get stuff, or get laid off if they do a mistake in any game, like losing diamonds in lava, or healing the wrong person in an instance. If you get told that you're a bad player by a male, check first what you did wrong; it's ofen that it's actually you who screwed up and played bad, not just because you're female.
4. If people keep nagging you, or say negatively-loaded comments against you, suck it up and do the same to him. This is the internet, everyone get's a nasty comment sometime in their life. Deal with it.
5. If you are under twelve and easily offended, it's not advised you go on any voicechat client or the likes, you are way too young. Maybe it's not because you're a female you get shouted at, but because you act like an immature and annoy everyone around you.
Just as a quick note, I do support your campaign for female gamers to be treated the way they should be. There is alot of pre-mature male teens that have sad little lifes and a big mouth. Give them the same talk back, ignore or report for being an ass.
