My laptop is so slow, I can't play minecraft on lowest settings.
I have windows vista and java 32 bit and for some reason it gets worse every day.
Can anyone help me?
1. Go install Optifine.
2. If that doesn't work, defrag your hard drive.
3. If that doesn't work, use a virus scanner. If you don't have one (why wouldn't you), I recomend either avast or AVG.
4. If that doesn't work, back up all your personal data you want to keep, and re-install your OS. This is the last resort to help improve performance.
5. If that doesn't work, then I'm sorry to say, but you need to get a new laptop/desktop as your current one is a pill of garbage.

Optifine will work wonders.
In case either of those recommended security programs don't suit you (even though both are completely capable of doing a decent job), there's always Microsoft Security Essentials.

i Had a laptop. it was a student notebook by connoi. it was really cheap and probably the worst comp in history but still was powerfull enough to run minecraft. at 5FPS. and optifine did not do crap. though, my laptop was a really bad one so i can't blame opti.
i recommend you start saving and buy a asus or dell laptop. for minecraft though, you can get an even more powerfull computer without paying as much as a laptop.
desktops are better for minecraft.
Why does everyone hate Vista so much? I know it's not the greatest, and I know that there are other operating systems that are way better, but you don't have to go around crapping all over it. I have Windows Vista and I run Minecraft just fine on basically max settings, and Optifine just increases that. My opinion, you don't have to like it, just saying that Vista isn't totally crap if you have a good graphics card, RAM, etc.
Anyways, enough of me protecting my OS (Lol. :P), yeah, just get Optifine. It helps out a lot, and you could try to run Minecraft with GameBooster as well, which can smooth out your FPS more to prevent lag spikes and usually bring you in about 10-20 more FPS.
Are you friggin' serious, Vista-nay sayers? His operating system has nothing to do with how crappy his laptop runs games. It's the hardware that defines it, and just because the OS is buggy and is (supposedly, from what I hear) a RAM-hogger does not mean it heavily influences a game's performance. Stop jumping on the Vista-hate bandwagon and blaming completely unrelated things on it, even though the problem originates in another place.
Anyway, like others have suggested, get Optifine and see if it works. If it still runs like crap, new computer for you.

No matter what, Vista will run horribly. There's nothing I can help you with except upgrade to Windows 7.
Yeah, get Optifine. I ran MC at 5 FPS constant, then after Optifine I get 100 + fps.
Click it or it will die...A cold painful death.
