Hey ppl, this is a long thread, sorry if i sound like i'm raging, i just want to say what i know (which seems pretty bad) and see what the community knows about recent changes. No complaint intended
The long awaited 1.2 update has finally come along, bringing with it a host of new features to minecraft, the bukkit crew joining mojang, and a new layout to the minecraft forums. A lot of great stuff is going on, but I have noticed some weird changes too, as in ' why the hell would they do that' changes.
Bukkit joined mojang. This means that bukkit updates will happen faster , but it also means that (according to Evil Notch maker of the Evil Minecraft mod) bukkit is going to be the only 'official' server API. Not only did mojang further delay the API we've been expecting for two months, they won't acknowledge any other. People who don't want to use bukkit pretty much have to now, unless they code their own API. Bukkit staff said 'you dont like bukkit? well your only other choice is coding your own API'. Who knows how to do that? Like 5% of the mc community? Let's say they do it anyway. Well now they have an unofficial build that they have to make their own mods for. Making all the desired mods to go on a server to get what you want would take months, and when an update comes who is going to take the time to update however many mods they have? It's enough updating one. I myself use bukkit, but for everyone who doesn't, well now they kinda have too. It's ridiculous.
I tried finding a dev build for bukkit today and got to jenkins as always, but when i tried to download the 2.1 bukkit build, I was redirected to github and given 'Kill2Blit doesn't have read permission'. Why is bukkit being associated with github? Do we need github accounts now? As 2.2 came out just today I do expect this to be fixed, fortunately. We'll see.
Last thing the forums change. Seems pretty good. A lot more convenient The only things I don't like about it is the gray bar at the top which basically says "THIS IS A CURSE WEBSITE. CURSE OWNS THIS 'MINECRAFT FORUMS'" (but who cares, it's just a gray bar); and the new icon for hot topics. It's a bit more annoying to see which topics are 'hot topics' with the thing on the side. What was wrong with the lava bucket? But meh not bad. Everything else is great .
Thats all i kno, pls add whatever you know about this stuff. I'm sure there will be a million comments 'Y u complain? Noob deal with it or quit minecraft'. Not trying to complain, just want to see what the good things with these changes are. I've only heard bad so far.
