I wouldn't say I'm much of a veteran but I've been playing since 1.7.2 which is still relatively old. I know basically everything there is about the game though, but then again, once something about Minecraft pops into your head that you didn't know before, you're probably not going to forget it that easily!
I think putting arbitrary lines on whether or not someone qualifies for "veteran" status is a bit stupid. It varies from person to person, and honestly the games quite old, I've been playing since 2013
The answer is quite subjective, so I would just ask myself whether or not I am one, as would you.
Personally, I consider myself a veteran, considering how my brothers are just getting into the game and learning Minecraft

Idk if I'd use the term "Veteran", but I'd say "an extremely long-time" and "old man".
Just happened upon this thread. Guess I was the one feeling nostalgic.
I started late '09. Never used the "Glacier" seed, hell, I've never even used a seed. Tried Creative ONCE - absolutely hated it, (but I realize some people really like it... I just like the survival aspect and 'earning' every block I place).
Saw someone mentioned the leaves staying hahaha. Yeah, memory lane, man. Mine were no shears (also mentioned) but mainly, no charcoal, no beds, etc. So, when you started a game, if you didn't find coal right away, you were pretty much screwed. All you could do was dig a hole, wait in it, in the dark all night and hopefully find coal the next day. If not? I'd just start a new one.
Obv, no Forge, so when people did start modding it, you had to do it all manually, within the guts of the files, set all the item block numbers manually, etc. Too old to remember his name, but there was ONE guy, that everybody had to wait on to start installing mods when MC updated... b/c they all relied on his mod... in order to add whatever. Buildcraft and Industrialcraft did NOT get along - it wasn't until somebody made a 'bridge' mod that you could even install them together.
I have a million more. Now, it makes me want to hear the theme song from "All in the Family" - being all reminisce-y and crap.

haha, this reminds me of aaaaaaaaall the things that weren't in the game back when I quit it. Since I recently started playing the game again, I'm having to relearn all the things that were added since then, its a lot for a poor soul like me I had to ask my friends alot about different enchantments and items and stuff and "why are my villagers dying".

When I first started the game I had no idea how to craft anything, and it's not super intuitive (three blocks gives you a sharp pickaxe? what?),
so early on I felt a lot like you. Then again, I also couldn't figure out how to swim...
I started to play around 7 or 8 years ago. It was in the 1.6/1.7 era but it was on CE so it was based on an older version, so the first version of minecraft I played was really between 1.2 and 1.4 since that version became equivalent to 1.6.4 after I had played for a bit (late 2014 was when the update came to CE and it added the 1.4-1.6.4 things) and I saw my uncles play minecraft on xbox 360 (and may have played a tiny bit before of xbox 360 1.2 came to CE) before PS3 edition came out but have played PS3 edition since it came out so around 1.2.4 or 1.3 was when I first played. FUN FACT: They added the wither skull to CE before they added the Wither Skeleton and The Wither.

So I was introduced to Minecraft by my freind in 2013 and started playing it in 2017 would I be considered a Minecraft veteran?
You're a veteran if you played a version before, say, 1.7.
A real veteran if you played before 1.0.

Wait when did 1.7. release for console?
Wait when did 1.7. release for console?
Bedrock Edition 1.7.0 was released October 15, 2018. But its an update that really was just for catching up with Java on some aspects.
Java 1.7, however, was back in 2013

It was never made equivalent to Java 1.7 and it skipped from 1.6.4 to 1.8.8
