So I always hear the phrases "vanilla Minecraft" and "vanilla SMP" thrown around. I know what they mean, but why is an original, unmodded version of Minecraft called "vanilla", not "chocolate" or anything else? just curious :smile.gif:
because the term 'vanilla' can mean without added flavour. the term chocolate can't.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...

Sorry about all these immature comments. Vanilla is a Minecraft server that is downloaded from minecraft.net, and it is pure without any mods. A Bukkit server is... well a Bukkit server.

Vanilla counts for singleplayer and multiplayer. Vanilla is a term in gaming that simply means unmodified.

Free + Crabs + Ability to trample/suffocate opponents in Cortex Command = Free Bombs.
I don't see why would anyone want to join a "vanilla minecraft" server anyway... There's really no way you're going to be able to keep control of anything without a few antigriefer mods/regulations. And maybe some balance fixes for broken mechanics (like villager trading).

white-list servers are quite secure.seems to work on the vanilla servers I play on.

What immature comments? They asked why they call vanilla Minecraft.. well, vanilla Minecraft. They mentioned that they already knew what it meant by definition, just not why it was called vanilla of all things.

Works fine for me, and I intentionally let a griefer play on my server.
Either he's a really terrible griefer, or maybe they aren't as bad as you think, in survival.

Allocators are no longer the future, we have Hoppers now. I still like them, though.
Give a man a fish, and he'll be fed for a day.
Vanilla is with vanilla flavoring,
Icecream isn't normally vanilla flavored. It is cream flavored.

Vanilla does serve as the base of many flavors, though.
It JUST means unmodded. You can play Single Player Vanilla
Yeah, same thing. :tongue.gif:
In WoW, Vanilla means the first game before the expansion packs
