As all of you may hopefully know you can enchant items in minecraft. And if you knew that hopefully you knew that putting bookshelves around the enchantment table increases the enchantment level. so i was wondering, whats the most efficient setup? (by efficient i mean highest levels)

first, make a 9x9 room. place the enchantment table in the middle. make the walls out of bookshelves. You can't have anything between the table and the walls, so to light it, I usually make the ceiling/floor out of glowstone.
you can have 1 door, and it needs to be with the bookshelves, (or just outside) in a 1x1x2 opening in the exact center of one wall.
I have pistons that close me in, bringing the total bookshelves to 32.
I stand on a pressure plate to close them.
I don't know if the pressure plate interferes and if it does, I will just use a switch in the ceiling.

Even if you have 32 bookshelves, only 30 give a boost. So just leave 2 out for a doorway!

Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. ~Psalms 62:6
I could be wrong, but last time I tried putting two layers of book shelves, one touching the table and then one touching the outside of that layer, it actually canceled out all the book shelves so it acted like there were none. Basically I'm saying don't let any touch the table.
Actually, the ones in the corners are blocked, so you are -4 bookshelves.
No they are not blocked. Read the wiki. This setup is THE setup, no arguments about it. I have this exact setup, and I can get level 50.
P.S. WTF is this post about????? V
By far the best florist and creative florist/decor you will come upon! Space required in the room for the florist/decor. If you have a vision and want that bev and her team will create it! Her creative team will out do themselves in more ways than you can think! Outstanding work!! My wedding guest were in awe from their work!!
The coding caps efficiency at 30 bookshelves. You just need:
where the obsidian is your table and you double-stack the bookshelves.
Just got a level 50 enchant with this setup except I had it three layers tall.
Proof:
can't post stupid pikture but it was a diamond sword and now it has bane of arthropod 5 and knockback 2! :smile.gif:
Are you using the setup described above? If so, you are just out of luck, keep trying. It's bound to pop up some time. If not, then something might be blocking your way or you have a slightly different setup. Post a screenshot of your setup that might help if there was indeed a problem with the bookshelves placement.
This is a pretty old post, but I'm going to bump it with a video that I made on how to make the most efficient enchanting room, to my knowledge. Thanks for checking it out.
With the new update, you only need 15 bookshelves to get a max enchantment. Here is my favorite layout:
Bookshelves are 2-high (equaling 16) and Obsidian is Enchanting Table. In my survival world, I have one wall of shelves going a bit farther for decoration. This room is my "Library".

Brohoof, bra. Brohoof.

So putting bookshelves as the floor and ceiling do nothing?

Has it been confirmed that the corner blocks don't add anything? If so, is it worth adding the piston-moved shelves to add an extra 2?

Baseball, then Minecraft.

That FAILED.
