I just wanted to make some tutorials for you. How to build like Korthos. First I'll show some example tutorials, then I'll make a tutorial of my planning method.
Nordic family house
1. Make a 15x17 square of fences. There should be openings on the middle of the two 17m sides.
2. Place cobblestone (Gravel works too) in this pattern, and remember the holes. They are important for the fields.
3. Place logs like this and fill the holes with water.
4. Place stone bricks like this. The ones next to the higher logs can be replace with stone brick stairs to make shelves. There are also two new logs here which I forgot earlier.
5. Place stone brick stairs zig-zag across the wall, like on the picture. Also put fences on top of the stone bricks there, and planks over the back stairs like shown. Remember not to put them on the fences. Repeat on the other side.
6. Put windows in the holes and plank slabs on top of the fences like this. Repeat on the other side.
7. Put stone bricks and stone brick stairs like this and a roof for the entrance out of planks, plank stairs and plank slabs. Support with fences. Repeat on the other side.
8. Continue the roof, just as simple as this. Also put stone bricks stairs under the main roof, on top of the entrance roof.
9. Make the roof look like this with expanding it in certain points. Put a plank stair on the tip.
10. [OPTIONAL] Make a little hole on the middle of each side of the roof, one block up (like shown) and place a glowstone block. Put a slab on the top. Repeat on other side. Make a hole on the top of the roof.
11. Start the chimney with fences and slabs.
12. Finish chimney, till dirt and plant crops. I noticed later that having the entrance like this is pretty awesome too.
You can decorate the inside with paintings, shelves, beds and a nice kitchen.
A little small for a permanent residence, and a little complex to be a "day 1" structure, but I love the design, especially how you managed to fit so much detail into such a small place (contradicting my previous point slightly I kow). I think it looks great at just step 8, as well as in the final picture. I hope to see more too :smile.gif:
Thanks. It's mostly for houses in cities and such. When I play survival, I make myself a little city, each house with its function.
I didn't like how long it took to build; three in-game days on creative mode. In part, it was because some of the angles you provided made it hard to judge exactly how things were placed. 2D pictures might have helped more than 3D ones for some steps.
I built the first one, and it turned out rather nice, especially when I turned some staircases and slabs upside down with the new feature from the 1.2 patch. It doesn't look as good outside the Dark Redemption texture pack, but it still turned out all right.

I'm building the second building now.
For the farmland not to be dehydrated. Crops will also grow faster.
Of course, it's coming some day. I think I'll update more often than every monday though.
I don't have Fraps and piracy is against my principles.
Sorry about not updating though. I just started a totally new project you'll probably see a lot of later.
