Okay, I was reading all these topics and couldn't help myself. I had to start a new one, hopefully it dosen't already exist, I didn't search so sorry if it does. I happen to be one of the admins on The Age Of Legends server and have seen many different types of people on our server. I'm am truly curious why people play this game, I know why I play this game, but when people come on to the server sometimes their actions really make me wonder why they are playing this game. The biggest thing I have noticed since I have been playing this game (a very long time), is that it is very hard to find people that have even a few things in common. Generally people want to go off on their own and try to create something that I guess they want everyone to admire, I know I do, but a lot of what I do is for me, the accomplishment of something big whatever it may be. The real kicker is finding people to share your vision with who will actually take part in the hard work of creating whatever it is your going to create. Then there is the question of what type of game do I like to play, true survival, or creative, or kill or be killed. All this mixes it up pretty good, the original game has definitely gotten lost in that mix if you ask me, just my opinion. Our server used to be a creative server(canary mod) and we created some of the most amazing things, but we are now back to a true survival and the rewards of building a big project that you had to mine out of the ground seem to greater than building a replica of something that can only be done in creative type servers. I have spoken too much, now let's hear what you have to say on this topic.
i do think that minecraft has strayed form the sandbox builder it started out as. but at the same time its also evolved into a great game! dragons, monsters, nps, ect. but that creative parts still there its just now you can do what ever u want! thats why i like this game.
I play Minecraft because I like that the developer of the game didn't make it into a "follow orders" game. You CAN really do what you want. World is your oyster, yada yada.
Like Skyrim (which I love) is "Open world" but still all your doing is following orders from other people (the kings having a grand old time ordering me about like a monkey lol).
It gives me the ability to play the game differently each and every day. For instance, since I started I haven't really done TRUE single player survival. The 1.0 update has spurred me (with no mods) to do just that. I've also had some laughs on servers, met new friends, played fun maps, and practically live on this forum LOL, I also create skins when time allows. It can be a calming game (when just generally mining knock, knock, block, knock, knock, block) or a full fighting action game.
People could say the same about Sims, but its not. The sims just gives you the "developers" view. You get to order the other people about and watch them whinge that they don't want to do it LOL.
I suppose in reality, thee are many reasons I play Minecraft :tongue.gif:
So far very good responses, I just wanted to see what most people would say and I think I was pretty close on how this would come out. Never stated my reasons for playing this crazy game, I love to create structures and usable items/buildings. I love the feeling you get when you discover rare items in a mine, or a mineshaft for that matter. Last but not least, I love playing with other people on a server, trying to build things together is more challenging than it seems.
