Wow, Minecraft begins to lose its characteristic elements. In what direction are they going? Of course, Reddit will hype anything, no matter what.
Yeah - to all these kids throwing up ideas on Reddit. I miss pre-Beta community so much.
Same, pre beta mc forums was awesome....mc forum suggestions are so much better than the idiotic ones up on reddit

~i dont run away from you....i walk slowly and it kills me that you dont care enough to stop me......You think this is truly the end hero NAH it has only just begun!
i honestly wonder if jeb even listenens to the community anymore.....
He does, but people often act like complete assholes, causing him to lose motivation.(There's a good number of those people who replied in this thread)
He listens to the community plenty of times. He has given a reason why he hasn't touched the generation a lot(People crying about needing new worlds, new chunks, ect). Aside from that, a lot of good ideas have gotten in the game. His reason for not changing the terrain is not a very good one though.
Also, we don't even know if Jeb is the one who changed the textures, Dinnerbone is pretty much the 2nd hand man of minecraft right now. He doesn't even take breaks, from what I've heard. It could be him too.
That's no where near a valid suggestion for this matter. If people need to rely on mods to get fun out of the biggest features of the game, there's already a problem.

Part of any videogame is suspension of disbelief. Steve can punch down a tree, but the most visible part of Minecraft is the landscape of course.
I still have my Minecraft Alpha 1.2.6 JAR file which I play sometimes for the nostalgia. I think the terrain is a little too realistic now especially with Large Biomes.
They look ok. The bad thing about this is that it was really unnecessary, and the reasoning behind it seems silly.
They don't look so bad. But like you said, is unnecessary. The new items have textures that don't fit with the actual Minecraft, and one of the main things of the Minecraft textures that they have black borders, the same thing that they remove. I don't know why they did it!
Honestly, I don't see the big deal with the new item textures. They look more realistic now. It's not that steaks or carrots have black borders in the first place.
And it's so easy to put black borders if you don't like them, open the image file and voila! And the grass color accordingly, BAM awesome green grass on every biome.
The awesome thing about this game is customization. It's very hard to satisfy everybody with the default texture pack, that's why the other texture packs exist.
It's a change that wasn't needed.
Imagine if, in the upcoming 3D remake of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Luke Skywalker's lightsaber was no longer blue or green, but purple or yellow.
That would **** a lot of fans off, right?
Same deal here. When companies start changing aspects of artistic expression that have already been established, you simultaneously **** off a group of people while at the same time might impress others.
So why change it at all? If you **** off an equal amount of people as you impress, then why not leave it alone and let the people who were originally pissed off have time to get used to the original design?
To do something like that is basically trolling - it just ends up pissing everyone off because no one has had the time to get used to anything. It isn't as simple a fix as just getting a texture pack, because the texture itself isn't the problem. The problem is the constant change to things that don't need to be changed and how it constantly stirs the waters of pissed-off and non-pissed-off people.
(And I know these statements might seem hypocritical to this thread, but there is a difference. Terrain generation is intrusive. You can't play the game without generating terrain. You can, however, play the game just fine without new food textures. It's a difference between artistic design and compelling game-play. Really, it's the core difference between mods and texture packs.)
Edit: The reason the original texture pack is important is because of brand identity. People have identified (made shirts, logos, animations, films, etc...) using Minecraft as a medium. Most of them also use the original texture pack because everyone whose played the game has used it.
So it is like a big middle-finger to everyone who worked so hard to make Minecraft popular by using its playful and iconic aspects as integral parts of their design.
What are people going to do with their pork-chop shirts now? Throw them away and make a new one? Keep them and remember back to when the pork-chops were "that old texture"?
For a game that relies greatly on the fan-base for advertisement, changing things that can be easily advertised and meme-d is like shooting yourself in the foot.
Yes, but now in the default pack the food items don't match up with every single other sprite in the game.
The textures themselves I don't mind.
But, isn't this a thread about terrain? Why are we talking about lines around meat?
More or less, it is about the gaming direction of the developers. It pertains to terrain generation because instead of working on something that is intrusive and game-play reliant, they are instead making changes that have no real impact to the game-play at all.
So, this little bit of the discussion is a "shock and awe" feeling that has arisen due to Mojang continuing to ignore this thread and, instead, play with useless changes.
Thanks

So much wrong with your comment. So much. I introduce you to Exalm

Mojang logic:
New textures doesn't fit with the old ones; also, old ones are MORE than the new ones.
Solution:
Change the new textures to fit with the new ones.
The new ones are really non-minecraft...

Post an AERIAL image with F3 ON if you want to prove it.

I suspect these snapshots are mostly bugfixes, and they're just adding simple little stuff to appease the masses.
