I know that playing a cracked version of minecraft is wrong, but do NOT judge people because of
1.)Some people cannot afford $20 for a game
2.)Some people's parents think its a waste of money to pay this much for a game
3.)Some people don't have internet at their house, and cannot play
Now most people could just wait for the pre-release, and pay half the price, and afford this, but this goes on to #2
Sometimes, parent can be really stubborn and just don't want to pay for things(like mine). My father(I live with only him) does not want to pay for the game and has a REALLY low credit card balance, and doesn't want to spend too much without going under(#3). Now i am currently cutting grass and babysitting my nephew every two weeks, giving me $80 a week. When i get enough money, in buying a new computer with an upgraded graphics card so i can play MC without the lag(i have major lag so if a creeper comes, it like teleports and blows everything up). I need $500 to buy the computer and pay the full price.
To make a long-ish story short, not everybody can pay for the game, but those who can just don't want to spend so much money, and they are, in fact, wrong. But don't forget everyone isn't as fortunate to play this wonderful, wonderful game.
I feel for you. With the state of the American economy I really can't blame you either. I remember before I turned 18 and was able to get a job and a credit card, my parents had such an enormous aversion to online shopping/banking of any kind there was absolutely NO WAY for me to purchase things online. u___u Thankfully now that I have a credit card of my own, that isn't a problem.
Minecraft is a relatively cheap game though, and compared to the $60 linear games for the PS3 that have a tendency to get stale waaay quicker than Minecraft, it is a cheap game that really gives you your money's worth, so I would strongly encourage anyone that is capable of paying for Minecraft to do so...
Accept it, you're stealing. Stop trying to justify it and just admit it, you are stealing.
Can't afford $20 for a game?
Then bad luck you don't get to play
I can't afford the Delorean remake getting re-released next year, so your suggesting I should steal one form the manufacturer? I can't afford it so what I'm doing isn't wrong I wanted it.
Parents think its a waste of money to pay this much for a game?
Then buy it with your own money, don't have the money? see previous answer.
3.)Some people don't have internet at their house, and cannot play?
This one makes no sense... I own it legally and can play it on multiple computers (not at once, well I could but I don't need to). If someone cannot play it why buy/pirate it...
I'm not going to argue on the validity of piracy, you can do whatever you want, but don't tell some sop story and trying to justify what your doing and claim what your/others are doing isn't wrong. Hell you admit that you could buy minecraft with 1/4 of one weeks income but instead you choose to continue pirating.

And that children, is the true meaning of Christmas.
Just because you want something does not mean that your entitled to own it or use it.
I am quite poor myself, being a college student who only has time to for a part time job and most of that money goes towards necessities and trying to pay off loans.
If you do not have enough money to buy Minecraft, then your even poorer than I am. In most countries its also very easy to buy a prepaid credit card, which is all you need to buy this game.
If your parents will not buy it for you, then earn the money yourself, save up allowance or birthday money. Do a little work for your neighbors. You can easily earn enough money in a week or two then just ask to be taken to a grocery store or wal-mart and buy a pre-paid credit card.
The only possible reason I could see for playing MC cracked would be that you live in an area or country where you are completely incapable of buying the game. That is the only circumstance I can see where you can justify not paying for the game.
1.)Some people cannot afford $20 for a game
2.)Some people's parents think its a waste of money to pay this much for a game
3.)Some people don't have internet at their house, and cannot play
Where do I begin?
1) As stated above, just because you can't afford something does not give you explicit permission to steal it. If this were true, beggars would be crime lords.
2) I used my own fantastic money to purchase my copy. Methinks you can cough up $20 yourself
3) So you're posting on these forums with...your mind? Your last point doesn't make much sense at all. Why would I steal a car if I couldn't drive it and could do nothing else with it?
People with cracked versions are bad people. Even if they can't afford $20 or are not allowed to buy it. Pirating Minecraft is still stealing and stealing is still bad

They aren't bad people. They don't go around punching babies and pushing old ladies into traffic. They're just...hm...how to put it...a tad lame?
They may have valid reasons, but they are breaking the law. One of my classmates claims he has a cracked copy and I have no idea what to do about it. What should I do?

We're all pirates, so it's kind of pointless to pursue the subject.
(Don't try to deny it. Sometime, somewhere, you have downloaded something for free that was under copyright. It's unavoidable in the modern world)
i kind of had a similar problem. only it wasnt about spending $20. my problem was that none of the credit cards i tried were working. i kept getting some error msg when i tried to buy minecraft from the minecraft website. the problem wasnt anything with the cards themselves, as they worked perfectly fine when using them elsewhere. i was like WTF!!!1!11one
so i was pretty curious as to why this was happening so i googled it. apparently its a problem that a lot of ppl have. anyways after a few weeks i had an idea that instead of purchasing through the minecraft website, maybe it would work if i purchased through the paypal website paypal. that worked. i was like O.o
anyways for those who cant buy the game for whatever reason, you can still play the pc gamer demo. thats what i did for those few weeks when i couldnt purchase an account. and before you start having a whine at me that you only have 90 minutes of play time on the demo, chill out. theres an insanely simple way to get unlimited time on the demo.
Theft is theft guys. Its going to happen and just because some one steals does not make them a bad person, just a peace of there moral code you disagree with. If said person uses cracked MC and plays for years with out ever giving back to the MC community i would be a little bummed about it. but really how many of these people are playing this game hardcore with a crack. The novelty of it wares off very fast, and its not like the MC team is hurting. This game is so big its retarded. Who cares if people want things for free, not like any of you are any better. Hell im proud to say i pirate Software, better that then beating my wife, raping kids, or shooting some one because he owe's me money. These are bad people. Theft is touchy and if your not destroying the life's of people who cares.
This is probably one of the most debated arguments on the web. Ie buyers vs crackers.
It is a hard subject to battle. If for some reason in the region you live in you cannot get the game legally at all (which is practically impossible now a days but still plausible) I say go for it. However if you can actually activly do something to buy the game IE get a job than do that.
some crackers are just plain lazy people who do not want to work for there game but the fact is not only do the developers have to work for there game but so to do buyers. To buyers it would appear that crackers are "jumping the que" and it seems unfair
When the sole purpose of the game is to entertain, then getting that game for free when it should cost money is a bad thing. I downloaded Photoshop ages ago, to play with it. I would never pay the full price for it, as I don't use it seriously.
If I was using photoshop seriously (Graphic artist, selling prints, making T-shirts whatever) then I would be buying it.
When you get Minecraft for free, you're using it completely. It's theft, no question. Sure, it's not horribly bad on the victim, but IT. IS. THEFT.
Op, you showed you're saving money for the game and a comp. Now why can't everyone else do that, and get the game too?
Pfft,
I had the cracked version for months and months, and I didn't buy it until I was well ready to afford it.
Does that suddenly mean I transitioned to a good person?
To be honest having the cracked version felt more like a demo or a sample of the paid version.
Its also the thing that got me (and all my friends) really really really addicted to minecraft, and led me (and all my friends) to buy it in the end (after seeing all the benefits)
I must say though, quite a few people on these forums sound like sulky 12 year olds who whine to their mummies and daddies when they want to buy something.
you try being a broke uni student.
And? It's still called 'stealing' because you got the game, but not paying it. It's a virtual theft, and with common sense you'd know that theft is a bad thing to do.
Besides, I'd think cracked Minecraft more as a 'free demo'. You'll see the watermark on your top left, you can't enter servers that aren't cracked, and you can't have your skin. Simple.

I'm leaving the forum, if anyone cared. You can find me on OC or FFR.
Ultimately, no matter how you try to justify it, there are laws.
Perhaps all of your reasons for playing a cracked Minecraft are somewhat valid, but it all boils down to this:
Minecraft was created by Mojang. It is a game created by a company to make money. It is created, coded, and updated with the intention of selling. It exists because we pay for it. It gets regular updates because we pay for it.
You are stealing, and you are stealing something that you don't even need.
If a starving man walked into a grocery store with absolutely no money... well, that doesn't give him the right to take a loaf of bread. That would be stealing. Perhaps someone will be kind enough to buy it for him, or maybe the workers there would 'overlook' his dirty deed. Either way, that bread was stolen, regardless of his ability to pay and how much he physically needed it.
Don't get me wrong. I feel bad for people who cannot afford such a cheap, yet AMAZING game. For many people, it is definitely one of the cheapest investments for hours of entertainment. $20 is extremely low for any video game, and most end up having only X hours of playtime. With such an open-ended sandbox game such as this, there really is no limit until finally the player just gets bored.
It sucks that someone can't afford it, or it sucks that those in charge of the cash refuse to spot them the money. Yeah, it really does. We've all known what that was like. That does not make it right to steal it.

People who have cracked MC are crack addicted families.
No just kidding, but your sticking up for something

Not the creator's fault of your misfortunes of not being able to buy the game.

Your sense of entitlement is staggering.
"I want it"
"I can't afford it"
Therefore- stealing it is ok??!! :blink.gif:
By the way- Your third argument is just plain silly. No internet, but you can find and download a cracked copy?
