I can calculate this.
81.5 - 33 = 48.5

70 years after the death of author plus 48.5 years = 118.5 years. Rounding, it's 119.

Theoretically, Minecraft remains copyrighted for 119 years, assuming that Notch follows the average lifespan of 81.5 years.

No games can stay pay-to-play forever. Minecraft will eventually follow that fate.

A. We would have little kid (i'm talking <9) galore spamming how happy they are that they can play Minecraft after months of begging the mothers with no avail. Then those little kids get banned from the server. They would then go make another account because it is free. Rinse repeat
B. Trolls galore. No explaining needed
C. Mojang make their living off of Minecraft would you really want to take that away?

Well there's a couple problems with this:

1) Official servers are necessary
2) What exactly to people pay for? Blocks? Like, you can pay $.50 to get 6 stacks of cobblestone or $3 for a stack of iron ore? That just seems kinda really silly.

This is going to P.O. the 10m+ who bought the game. Plus, a man's gotta eat.

No! You should have to pay for it, creating a game and keeping running costs money and without money Mojang would not be able to keep the game going.

I don't think Minecraft needs to become free. Mojang, who made Minecraft, should get all the money for the game they made, it deserves it.

There should be an option that says "No, because I already paid and that would be no fair."

minecraft will not become free to play and if it did allot of people would stop liking Mojang and minecraft all together or over time, 11,840,885 have already bought the game for pc/mac and making it free to play would be a giant kick to the face for them, there's already a demo and there wouldn't be a demo if it was going to be free to play. there releasing minecraft on the ps3, ps4, and psvita, this will make an increase in money gain so why make the pc version free to play? the pc version might even get more sales when the ps3 ps4 and ps vita versions are released

im guessing you don't actually have minecraft or something and you wanted it bad... ok lets make a situation here... you buy a really popular game for 30 bucks... then it goes free to play, there are more trolls and hackers in servers that cant go white list like game hubs, you pay 30 dollars for what everyone else gets for free, mojang will probably get ALLOT of hate, the community gets destroyed, and minecraft goes from being the most popular game out there to being the worst nightmare of all gamers, mojang is not going to ruin minecraft for some greedy losers
