Go valve!! They have made a good couple of good games, and actually liste to their community (In fact I belive its one of the best companies on this fact) xD
for god's sake, can't you just accept the fact that some people like valve more than mojang? jesus.
For God's sake, can't you bother reading instead of skimming? People are comparing Valve based on what it's done entirely. If that was the case, Nintendo would win. Every. Damn. Year. Considering Alien Swarm was a pretty bad game, people saying "It's no contest, Valve" aren't getting the point
@ Timbor
Steam. Last time I checked, it wasn't made in 2010.
Vote for what you want, I'm simply trying to get Mojang another victory, especially because the Escapistmagazine community will be making rivers of tears and fires of flame.

Who in the hell is Escapistmagazine?
And yeah, Nintendo would probably win every year. So? it deserves it. or at least I think it deserves it more than an indie company. The very fact than those two got in a fight is a freaking fail for whoever did this tournament, thougt.
"wow, my favorite company is up against a company I don't like! this is a no bra--
wait...my favorite company didn't release any games last year! I'm gonna have to vote for the company I don't like :("
Well as for Elvis winning the Grammys, his music is better than most of the crap out now. but your point is still invalid, as Elvis is dead. Another bad point you made is nintendo winnig every year, yes they have some good series but they have over all decreased in quality while other companies have made better games.
But you are simply obsessed with mojang, and only want to consider a small time frame which shines favorable upon you.
I personally haven't played alien swarm and I cant because I run Mac OS10.6. But I looked it up and it's a free game which you cant expect to much of it, although to be fair it sounds rather fun. So I am unable to judge it.
I love Minecraft and I respect Mojang, but Valve simply has a better track record.
EDIT: however I am going to leave before this degrades into a flamefest. as I feel you will not be convinced, and I wont be, this is the only rational solution.

steam, last i checked it was still being updated and maintained in 2010.
you also seem to forget the fact minecraft isnt even released/it didnt start in 2010.
Why the **** is anyone voting for Valve? What have they put out in the last year that can compare to Minecraft? Nothing. The competition is about the best developer of the past year, not of all time. PLEASE VOTE FOR MINECRAFT ALL THE WAY!
Notch will ban your account and all future accounts of yours if you don't, btw.

I would want to see him do that. And technicly Mojang didnt release any games. Minecraft still beta.
It sickens me how many people are fanboys to Mojang, I like valve, I like Mojang, Mojang made a very original and good game, it isn't even a contest though, Mojang has released no games, the one you can buy from them, isn't even finished, valve on the other hand, has done EVERY computer player a favor, they made steam, not to mention the half life series, sorry mojang, my vote is for valve.
I still absolutely love you though, I do think, this year though for 2010, Minecraft should have won, but if it is a contest between overall Nintendo would've beat everything.
you also seem to forget the fact minecraft isnt even released/it didnt start in 2010.
I think that's important.
I love minecraft, I like what mojang did but Valve are the last remaining good publisher (for now) that actually has the budget to realise good ideas. L4D is the realisation of zombie movies in playable form and one of the best small scale co op games EVER MADE and quite replayable. Half life is a classic series though they're taking their sweet time. Portal 1 was a perfectly realised gem, 3 hours you will not regret. Valve see something they like, they go "oh, new talent" and hire the creators. And team fortress 2, is fun.
I think valve's philosophy is good, they find talented indie devs in their field and they give them money and turn their nice ideas, which might make a splash on kotaku or something into blockbusters without EA style raping them. Honestly, unless the big publishers turn around soon they're the last hope for the gaming industry, which is why I'm glad they're so insanely profitable. Steam isn't perfect but I have to admit, I like it, I get competitive pricing and convenient shopping.
In all honesty, despite me being a huge valve fanboy, I think it's about as deserving for the award this year as mojang, which is to say, minecraft became a thing in 2009 and it's not been released and valve have been quiet, in the end though like "who'd win in a video game character battle" the winner is just the one with the most fanboys not the one that's best. Who should win 2010? Bioware maybe (mass effect 2. Unf)? Or blizzard for cataclysm (I love that the quality of PUGged players has increased hugely as 500000 players quit whining that it was too hard... no coincidence.. and that it's challenging and the class changes are sweet and the balance keeps improving) (and SC2 as well)
edit: I also only followed the link after I posted that. the other semi final contains 2 semi finalists who both blow mojang and valve away in terms of last year's releases. It's a shame they had to face off before the final.
Further edit: Team meat made one nice game that was based on imaginary nostalgia. It's a good game, but besides being "hard" and being funny and visually pleasing it doesn't change anything. They got rightfully beaten by blizzard, who set the bar in all the genres they produce in, however it's not like they were serious contenders. Indie studios that set the world on fire rarely stay indie. There's plenty of neat little studios making neat little games but it doesn't change that in 2 years no one will care. The finalists, mojang aside, have all had lasting impressions on the genres they work in and made them with multiple titles. In terms of last year though, blizzard and bioware did a lot more. People won't forget mass effect 2 until 3 comes out.. hehe.

Wow, just wow, that was amazing, kudos to you, good sir.
Last friday i bought Shogun Total War: 2. I was a little upset that I had to download it using steam, because in my experience steam is ****. Seventeen hour download, I ran the game. There was no video, So I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it for another seventeen hours. Still no video. I go back to game stop to turn it in; "Sorry no refunds on computer games." Thanks Valve.
Half Life 2 - 100% (voted by over 30 mainstream magazines and websites)
TF2 - 96% (voted by over 20 mainstream magazines and websites)
Honestly, I don't give a damn if it's a 2010 poll or not. Mojang shouldn't have beaten Nintendo, and they SURE AS HELL better not beat Valve. Valve changed PC gaming as we know it, with the release of a beautifully simple way to chat with friends and play games. They made 1st-person shooters popular. They made class-based mutliplayer skirmishes popular. Hell, I loved Alien Swarm, even if it was 4/10. (You should also realize Alien Swarm was free, and not even complete yet, as it was just a test to see if people liked it, so it's not being fairly judged)
Screw 2010. I'm basing this on every year, whether it's 1990 or 2011.
TheZombie, it's a poll for your favorite developer. It's not a poll for your favorite developer of 2010, but for some reason the OP posted that stipulation to try and get more people to vote for Mojang. Even if it was a poll for your favorite developer of 2010 Mojang has released a grand whopping total of 0 games in 2010 and Minecraft development began in May 2009. Vote for who you want to vote for.
I hope not, minecraft is good, but honestly it shouldn't have gotten this far in my opinion. But good luck either way, it would probably just mean Notch finding another excuse to have everyone in the office ditch to accept some award...Again.

Thats like saying all cars fail because you don't know how to put gas in them.
