The console **** is old. Consoles need to go. They aren't useful (they used to be, while you could put Linux on a PS3...). Waste of money, plus, they only add a lot of problems for the developers.
All of your arguments are invalid. Notch doesn't make games for money. He works because he likes to. That is something a console fan would never understand.
Giving all the jerks who play on consoles (TRorlotlo GRAphcS Msisons Achivmentz gAem 4 Laif) a chance to "enjoy" the game would make that million of intelligent(compared to the jerks) people quit.
Now I dont want to be flamed in this thread, I DO want people if you believe so, to counter my arguments please.
Now his number 1 problem with minecraft is that its at the HIGHPOINT in popularity NOW. Which is to say for PC gaming there isnt that many more sales ( compared to the 1 million already sold!! amazing!!)
What he needs to do is invest 90% of the money he made already to finish the game, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY create an Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network version of the games!
I dont want PC elite's ruining this thread about how it "wont work" and its impossible just stop alright. I understand it was made in java and all that but he could just sell the rights to microsoft(FOR xbox arcade ONLY not the PC rights) and have them do it. I mean even if they give him a crap amount or a small % of sales ITS BETTER THAN NOTHING right?
Most of his sales for PC are going to be in the alpha/beta version which makes no sense and with at least 50% of sales GUARANTEED free DLC... he is just throwing money out the window.
Its funny that someone has beat him to an arcade version of minecraft and he is doing NOTHING legally about it.
all in all he created one of the funnest and most creative games ever, it is praised by literly everyone who plays it and he made a GOOD amount of money, but considering how good the game is and how popular it is he missed out on A LOT.

Would go ahead and say that you have to pay for the license to place stuff on the xbl or psn services, so a premium of what you charge for the game goes to them. That is first factor to hurt sales.
Second is potentially the architecture of the game itself, but I'm no expert so I will leave that one up in the air.
Third is obviously compatability. Right now servers for SMP are player owned and run, like old call of duty games used to be on PC (no matchmaking). I own an xbox, not out of any particular fandom, but more to play with my friends (bought it a few weeks ago). It would take a long time (potentially) to set it up so that multiplayer would matchmake, but then you have issues with persistant worlds and projects (who wants to play for an hour and restart 300 times over). The alternative is to use servers the way it is now, but then I dont know if xbox supports that, and although it probably doesn't natively, it would mean notch would have to configure a way to create a server browser (honestly that should be done anyways for PC eventually). Getting everything to work out this way is some effort that is not spent on game development.
Fourth is the actual hardware of the platforms, as even though minecraft looks simple (beautifully so), it does take quite a bit of power to keep track of everything. Of course, I can run it on my work laptop, but not on full view distance, and gfx settings have to be on fast, not far. Console hardwares was outlined higher up in this thread, so I wont go over them here.
Fifth is that (at least for XBL, and im nearly 100% sure about this), microsoft prevents publishers from releasing DLC for free. Since notch has already declared Alpha buyers will not get later versions of the game for free, this could severely impact development cycles for consoles, not to mention would put off current buyers on consoles (especially if their older versions get locked out).

first of all. x88 isnt a computer architecture x86 is howeever, so i assume u mean that.
I don't know where you got such an idea.
The 8088 was the origin of modern PCs. It is the processor for which MS DOS was first licensed. The 8bit, 8088 XT.
The second generation being the 8086 PC -- Followed by x286, x386, x486, and Pentium.
They had gone to school together, that means "classmate" tho not necessarily at the time they made the trade.
And I know it was made as a hobby - that was my point.
Minecraft was made as a hobby too, and the OP was suggesting Notch sell it to Gates.. a repeat of history. :wink.gif:

That's so incredibly elitist. Geez. What if I happen to enjoy consoles and PCs?

Nature should really stop catering to all these furries! I mean, do we REALLY need two kinds of elephant? Puh-leaze.
my god out of 2 pages maybe 3 people listed some actual arguments...
Look to all the people saying "oh notch wont betray us for money, blah blah" ITS BETTER if he tries to maximize profits!!!
More money for him means he will always be updating minecraft and such. He isnt Activision where they can take chances on other games, he sold 1mil copies and he needs to broaden his game to other platforms!!!
Do people really believe that the xbox360 and ps3 cant run minecraft? Why does the world have to be 8x earth's size. Just ****ing scale it down to 1x of earth and 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of people wont notice or even care.
The graphics in the game suck, so seriously people are mentioning how it wont be able to run it..
Look guys if he either liscensed the game out to Activision/EA/whoever to make the game OR makes it himself for Xbox live Arcade and PSN HE WOULD MAKE MORE MONEY.
So I hope he understands that, because he would sell 200k on each EASILY. I mean some arcade games sell 200k there first week... Imagine an amazingly fun game like minecraft it would shatter records. It took him months and months to get to 1mil
create an Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network version of the games!
The second I read this part, I yelled "NO NO NO!" at my computer screen. It's an overdone idea, it would be a waste of money and a waste of time. If someone who LOOOOOOOOVES a console wants to play Minecraft, it's not a ****ing challenge to buy it and play it on PC. In fact, I bet there are thousands of people that have consoles and have Minecraft on PC, thus reinforcing this fact.

I play on consoles. Was that massive stereotype honestly needed?
Your argument sure is full of tons of assumptions. Not going to debate this, there is way too many assumptions. Also I stopped reading when you said Xbox Live and PSN versions.
2nd post nailed my thoughts completely. OP doesn't know what hes talking about and certainly isn't a businessman.

You have no idea what you're talking about, and I laughed when you said, "Omg, just scale it down to 1x the size of Earth, duhhzz". Get out, dumbass.
Well, coming from a business and computery(Not a word :biggrin.gif:) guy, he is my.... thoughts?
Xbox Live/PSN: First of all, I'm pretty sure Java is compile once, run everywhere. Actually, I'm not pretty sure, I am sure. I'm not sure if this applies to the Xbox 360 and the Playstation3. Now, both of those systems easily have enough processing and graphics power to support the game, but RAM, is a different story. The Xbox360 has 512Mb's of high speed and highly optimized RAM. I think the Xbox360 could run it. The PS3 on the other hand, has only 256Mb's of RAM that is not nearly as optimized as the Xbox's. I do not think the PS3 could run minecraft with a pleasing render distance. Also, I don't really mind if minecraft was on either of these systems provided we had cross platform support. We would finally have more players coming in, and there would no be nearly as many servers because the people that use systems are usually inept when it comes to something like hosting a server.
Free DLC: Notch has already stated that all Alpha sales will not receive free releases of later Minecraft versions.
Arcade Version: Never heard of it, but I'm sure if it does exist, it will be taken care of very soon.
High Point In Popularity: I think this is the highest so far, but I believe once Notch adds more unique content(More mobs, underwater, a huge surplus of blocks, etc) the popularity will go even higher.
Thank you, and goodnight!
PS3 has two pieces of highly optimized RAM and also where did you here the Free DLC for alpha has been cancelled?
My facts Are straight. :wink.gif: I was there.
The original design was the 18088a which was never put into manufacture, Revised to p8086 which Was the first to go into production, but costs were too high--- so it was retro-engineered to the v.11 8088 which went into the First home PCs.
IBM went with the 8088 for 2 reasons.
#1 Cost.
#2 Time.
Their Own 801 processor was actually cheaper (they made it themselves, so no markup) and more powerful than either the 8088 Or 8086, but adding the production time of the processor to each PC would push the release schedule further out than they were willing to allow.
The cost of the 8086, if it were their only other real option, would probably have caused them to accept that delay and use their own processors.. and we would all be on very different (and likely faster) machines today.
Edited: 1 - There was even a neat little story about the in-house tendancy to call the 8088 11 the Recycle..
The designers of the 8088a were angry about being moved to the 86 and BACK again, after.. as they liked to put it, they threw the 8088a (threw the 8 away) :tongue.gif:

I'm guessing you have personally had a bad experience with the customer support.
Porting to console now would be terrible, updates and all.
I've been through this argument so many times I'm not going to post the exact same thing again.
