Notch has stated, MULTIPLE TIMES, that the focus after the Halloween update would be core SMP engine work to get it working and push into Beta. He said that content would be practically non-existant while he focused on that.
Where are we now? In Beta with generally working SMP that's come on leaps and bounds from where it was.
With content round the corner including mobs and dyes and who knows what else.
However much people seem to think that Notch can just grab mods and stuff them into the game willy nilly regardless of issues with tech, balance and legality, it's NOT that easy. The only thing that's easy is seeing just how little most of the community completely fails to understand the logistics and work flow of running a legitimate project like this as opposed to just hacking stuff in to an already existing game/engine.
Where are we at with SMP? Well, we have actual health, we have MOBS, and he fixed some bugs. Oh yeah, and he bugged it straight to hell with brand new glitches and bugs. Ok, well, we may be better off than October, but come on, a health/monster system and adding/removing a few bugs? THATS what a team of 7(?) people working on one indi e game can do in a span of 3 months? What were they doing for the other 80% of that time?
not saying he can just grab them and put them in willy nilly. I'm saying to actually LISTEN to the suggestions forum, and to actually get off his ass and MAKE some of those suggestions, instead of letting the forum be a metaphorical circle-jerk of Minecraft fans hoping that Notch will see their idea, which inevitably WON'T happen.
Seriously, if I was Notch, I'd be laughing at criticisms about my game development from people who can't even manage a basic forum search, hah... :\
If I "was" you I'd stop esteeming my own intelligence so highly and stop looking like a dumbass getting worked up over these same repeat threads you've just referenced.

All criticism? No, but you should try to be constructive instead of this ******** pseudo-criticism that amounts to "AMG GIEF ME WAT I WONT OR I GUNNA FROW TEH RATTEL FRMO TEH PRAM LULZ!!!!!"
And uh... yes, you should let him do whatever he wants, whenever he wants... you don't really have a choice. It's his game. That's how it works, dipshit. This is not "Design By Committee" and as much as you self-important whiners would LIKE to think that doom and gloom is around the corner because "by Jove, if we don't get what we want, we'll all leave, and no new players will come because the game sucks!" the game continues to be worked on, continues to get rave reviews, people continue to like what they see and buy in, and MC continues to grow in general.
You are not a special little snowflake.
Though you may be just a touch special.
Not claiming I'm special or different from any other Minecraft player, I'm really quite interested as to where you got that from.
It more amounts to "Notch, stop being lazy, and actually IMPROVE your game instead of being completely outdone by your fans who are tired of waiting." I'm not saying its "Design by Committee", I'm saying, listen to your fans and don't blow them off like an asshole. THEY are your fanbase, and THEY'LL give you suggestions on what YOUR FANBASE would like to see in the game. We don't give two shits if Mojang gets capes, or if deadmau5 gets a skin. we would like a non-buggy multiplayer, and maybe a few drops of content. Are we all gonna leave if he doesn't think of his fans? NOPE. But does that mean that he therefore shouldn't listen to us? NOPE.
YOU are not a special snowflake, YOU are not any more intelligent than myself or anyone else in this thread, you arrogant *****.
Modders get to spend all their time on a single element they want to improve, Notch has to work on the entire game. Modders would have NOTHING to mod if there wasn't a game. There are many more modders to work on individual mods. Some modders do not have lives to attend to and can work on their mods all day everyday because it is just a hobby to them.

Here's a simple way to solve this problem: Get Notch to open the source for the game, allow modders to mod it how they see fit, Notch will pick mods that are polished, work well, and are bug free, and pay a royalty or a flat price to include it in the game. That way, everyone's happy and OP can go back to 4chan and stop using /v/ to give support to arguments that he's too lazy to make himself. :biggrin.gif:

Notch has had a team of people to help him on the game and has since he stopped doing big updates. Notch also does not have a life, so naturally by your logic he should be able to work on his game (which has less content than many free mods such as Alien Swarm for example) all day. Just because he got 10 million dollars for doing it doesn't mean that it's suddenly not a hobby that he attends to on a whim when he's not feeling lazy.

Notch will open source the game, but after hes done with it.
Of course modders are going to be better than devs at their game simply because they have more time to spend on the projects. I'm sure notch could do the things modders do, but its not what he wanted to do nor would he have the time for a stable release of them.
Power to the modders though, thanks for making a great game better.
Modders have been completely out-doing Notch in updates. Modders, single individuals, without any other help, have made dozens of MOBs. MOBs that you can ride, and actually WANT to ride. MOBs in the water. They have made paints, months before Notch even planned to. They have made dozens of new crafting recipes, new blocks, and new ores. They have made the Nether actually worth a damn to visit.
...
Notch needs to actually DO something with his damn game, cause these modders are making him out to be pretty damn lazy.
Isn't it just amazing how that works? --that a whole internet-worth of modders (hundreds) can far out-do content creation that a single developer can do? Who would have thought? I mean.. if someone had asked me "Who can perform more work, a group of hundreds of people or a group of a couple people?" I would have totally said the group of a couple people could do more work...

Notch, on the other hand, who has an entire office full of programmers, artists, marketers, etc. has given us in the last two months:
Really? From what I've read of his blog, the only programmers are him and one other guy that was recently hired to work on the server.
So ok, because I don't like something about a game I enjoy, and have a complaint, I should rush off and learn a new skill so that I can make my own?
I didn't say you would do it. I'm just saying one day someone will, and I'm looking forward to them realizing that people don't change and that everyone he's attracted to his community is just as horrible as he once was.
As for learning a new skill, if you don't know how to program then you have no idea how hard it is. Do you know how hard it is to make an entire 3D engine as opposed to a mod? If you don't know programming, the answer is 'probably not'.
And if you do know programming, well, you want a better world? Make one! There's obviously tons of money to be made.
Are you implying that Notch even gives a damn about the game anymore?
No, he obviously hates all of us and hopes we die. Hyperbole is grand!

This forum ticked me off so much I went to random.org and set my password to something I'll never be able to remember, then switched my password reset to a throwaway.
"GIVE ME CONTENT NOW"
*gets content that was rushed because people are inpatient whelps*
"HEY THIS HAS BUGS IN IT"
*Bugs get rushed to be patched and in the process more bugs emerge*
You know what... I think Notch needs to do a little LESS listening to the community

Becuase playing through each individual mod myself, making a list of everything I see, then compiling it would be a more intelligent thing to do rather than ask people for their own experiences.

He isn't being lazy.
He does care about the game.
It's clear to anyone who isn't a fool.
He HAS improved the game.
Just not the way YOU seem to think it should have been, ie content over boring backend and engine work which the SMP community was equally crying out for while whining he was focusing on content over functionality.
What do you not understand?
Notch has been nothing but upfront about intentions and plans.
If you're tired of waiting you should have never bought in to an alpha with no promise of a finish line, or a beta with no promise of any particular schedule for content updates or development cycle focus.
And you say I'm arrogant because I call repetitive ******** whining by it's name. Sure thing, chum.
Not saying he hasn't improved the game. I'm saying that the improvements have slowly tapered off and are few and far between, if at all. This is true even though he now has a development team, artists, marketers, etc. and has made little millions off of the game. If anything, they should have skyrocketed.

Hell, you don't even have to play through the mods. Just read through the threads. People posting bug reports and general feedback of the mod is a great way to figure out if a mod is good or not. You're just lazy.
