Modders have been completely out-doing Notch in updates. Modders, single individuals, without any other help, have made dozens of MOBs. MOBs that you can ride, and actually WANT to ride. MOBs in the water. They have made paints, months before Notch even planned to. They have made dozens of new crafting recipes, new blocks, and new ores. They have made the Nether actually worth a damn to visit.
Heres a list of fully-functioning, non-buggy mods:
A Minimap
Birds
Ogres
Tower dungeons
Dyes/Paints
Fixing snow
Boomerangs
Ambient Occulsion
Fixes For HD Textures
Lions
Bears
Handheld torches
Humans
Dragons
Wolves
Horses
Ogres that break blocks
WEREWOLVES
Herobrine
Rogues
Elves
Hunters
Wanderers
Archers
Knights
The list goes on.
Notch, on the other hand, who has an entire office full of programmers, artists, marketers, etc. has given us in the last two months:
*a custom deadmau5 skin (only for deadmau5)
*capes
*(hopefully) a water mob
*(hopefully) paints
*throwing an egg can maybe get you a chicken
*leaf decay
*a ****-ton of bugs
Notch needs to actually DO something with his damn game, cause these modders are making him out to be pretty damn lazy.
And now, I guess I wait for the ****-storm of Notch-Defenders telling me if I don't like the game to not play it.
Well credit goes to Notch for making this game that the modders can mod. The mods aren't all that special, it was bound to happen after some time and they will progressively get better, and they are tuned to players tastes. However the platform that allows these things is a lot more special. For example, Garrysmod is essentially a platform for custom game modes. Does that mean that the one game mode everybody plays is better than garrysmod? No! This is because the mod is IN the platform.
Well...If you don't like it don't play it....But I agree with you on all accounts....I just choose to enjoy the game as it is til Notch steps his game up xD.

Modders are hijacking the game and if someone really smart, really skilled in modding, and really greedy makes a whole new minecraft, were gonna has a lawsuit =).
Well...If you don't like it don't play it....But I agree with you on all accounts....I just choose to enjoy the game as it is til Notch steps his game up xD.
Please specify where he says he doesn't like the game, because right now you are just saying exactly what someone with poor arguments would say and he predicted that exact stupid answer.
I see the point of the apparent lack of new features, but as said already, he deals with the platform itself, and there are A LOT of great modders, dedicating only to the mod itself. Of course it end up becoming great in some cases. There are a lot of factors for Notch seeming like slacking, but it's not like there's a huge devteam behind him. The modding community is the nearest of it he can get.
I believe proper mod support, with a stable and deep API would make things better than if we just wait for him to code is own official version of all the great mods out there.

Actually Notch didn't make it so that minecraft support mods, people just figured out how to do it.
and Notch actually said somewhere that he didn't want the game modded until him, himself placed an official mod loader for minecraft.
AND i agree with OP that modders have done what notch could have done but never did, and they did it before notch can get up his ass from playing gaemslol and not giving us what we all want which is updates.
awaiting the **** storm cap'n, i's a brewin' across the seven seas
Also I agree the Modders have been very awesome and are indeed kicking his ass in everything, but you still can't deny Notch the credit of actually having the balls to come up with this game and fully going through with it. Seriously he actually quit his job to develop this, that takes some balls, if minecraft never hit it big across the message boards, image boards, and so forth Notch would be in ruin right now or just chocked full of stress like the developers of penumbra.

Sure, tell me where you see I have ANY arguments against what he said. I agree with him completely. And clearly put the first sentence there solely because he expected it. It's getting bad when someone has no reading comprehension from just three sentences....

Nah brah during the first months of the alpha version of survival Notch was actually dishing out updates like ****ing crazy and actually working hard with diligence and dedication. Only until the major bloggers, and review websites started giving him the spotlight did he start playing video games (hours and hours of Civ 5 anyone?) and not giving a **** anymore while setting up his company.
Man, one day the complainers will get fed up. One day, one person who isn't all talk will actually step up and put his money where his mouth is and actually make a goddamn game instead of complaining all the time about how the game he paid a mere $15 for doesn't cater to his every whim (and only his whim, as any update not in accordance with his wishes is obviously worthless). Someone who understands the difference between making a mod and making an entire engine.
And I look forward to that day. If that person does it well, it'll get accolades and recognition, and people will flock to it.
And then on that day, on that glorious glorious day, that complainer will discover a community of people
JUST.
LIKE.
HIM.
(Only even worse, because they're not even going to do anything about their complaints!)

Yah mon, i was there during that few good months when notch gave us secret Friday updates, and then stopped so then i made this prediction chart awhile awhile awhile back, it came out somewhat true. http://i52.tinypic.com/mafeja.png

You are clearly doing it wrong, since I haven't implied you had arguments opposing him...
So OBVIOUSLY you can't use the same form of argumentation. You are really weak...

The only ones that you mentioned that are interesting are the hand held torches and ambient occlusion.
The other ones are minuscule, mobs, not fitting the theme (mini-map) or fixes for unsupported features (HD textures).
Mobs are neat and they have their place, but I believe that no human mobs are a design choice. So while awesome, they have little to do with the developers vision.
The others like wolves and whatnot are neat, they are awesome even, but they are not implemented into the game to the devs liking (I assume). Ogres for example, to new comers they are ridiculous, fun my house getting bash in.
Mobs are not a big deal. Deciding the future direction and stability of the product is.
*shrugs* I deffinatly think notch (and devs) should be open to modders creations (some of mo' creatures) or even working with them, but I don't see how they are "out doing" them.

"Modders, single individuals..." By which you mean, of course, a veritable army of single individuals, all working on different things, often at cross purposes compared to...
Notch, a single individual, who gave you the entire game as it stands up until putting his company together recently (oh, so that's a small team vs a veritable army of modders...).

It's got nothing to do with defending Notch, it's just Yet Another Clueless Whine From Someone Who Doesn't Understand The Basic Logistics(TM). It's Notch who built the game from the ground up, a large percentage of which will be nothing to do with content but the much more important yet unappreciated work that people like you take for granted.
And I'm willing to bet most of the authors of the mods you cite will be happy to admit that if they were to start trying to recreate Minecraft from scratch, they'd be utterly lost without having the hard working guts of Notch's engine to piggy back on top of. They do great things with their mods, but there's a reason Minecraft exists in the first place and that's Notch and now also the Mojang team's vision and hard work.
Now **** off, you clueless troll or I'm sending the boysssssssss in.
I am not saying that I could rebuild Minecraft from the ground up. I'm saying that Notch needs to actually DO something about his output of content. We've been bone-dry of new content for quite some time, and meanwhile these average people of average programming skill are pumping out MOBs and recipes. Notch sold us an unfinished game, saying that we would be getting a stream of new content as the game moves towards completion. Instead, he leaves us hanging, playing video games so much that he gets literally nothing done. It has gotten to the point that the fans are responsible for 70% of the new content introduced to the game, because we're sick of waiting for it from Notch. We have given this man MILLIONS of dollars, and what do we have to show for it? deadmau5 has a custom skin?

So ok, because I don't like something about a game I enjoy, and have a complaint, I should rush off and learn a new skill so that I can make my own? Or should I just hold off all criticism to our Lord Notch, and just let him do whatever he wants, whenever he wants, with nothing but praise from me?
Are you implying that Notch even gives a damn about the game anymore?

More like:
No Notch: No game.
No Notch: No buggy as hell Beta versions that I'm not convinced he even tested much.
I'm not saying the man doesn't deserve SOME applause for making the game, but by the looks of it, modders care more about his game than he does.
