I'm wondering if its possible to make a server that only people on my home network can connect to? If so how do I make it?

Don't post the IP of the server online. If you want to be able to pirate the game and play on a LAN server, GTFO.
If you aren't a pirater then ya, just don't post the IP online, I severely doubt anyone will guess it.
You're saying to make a server and just not give out the ip, but is there a way to password protect the server?

On a LAN, your computers all have local IP addresses, usually in the 192.168.x.x range. These are not visible on the internet, so you won't need to protect your server. Make sure you use your computers' local IP addresses, not your internet address. Your router uses NAT to allow all of the computers on your LAN use the same internet address.
If you want to make your server public, you will need to configure your router to forward Minecraft's port to the proper address on your local network. If you don't do this, it is not possible for anyone to access your server.
