You forgot to account for Paypal fees, the completely ridiculous, socialist, Swedish tax rate, and the fact that Paypal currently has a 5% hold on the account, because the huge explosion in popularity made Paypal think Notch was some kind of international terrorist/money launderer.
Also, he's not exactly blowing it all on a golden suit and a throne made of diamonds. He's investing it into his company. Getting a studio. Hiring some dudes. Minecraft's production is going to increase, and everyone wins!
oh i know its not all in money but still 5% of 2 million is only 40k and taxes take 20 or so so hes still at 1.6 mill USD thats a pretty good two years in my book o.o
It makes me very happy that I discovered this game while it was still in alpha. I get to watch a small little one man developed game blow up and turn into a proper company. That's a very cool experience to be apart of in my opinion.

It's closer to the 50%+ range in Sweden, last I heard. It depends on the tax bracket he's in.

I agree, especially since I discovered this game back in like 0.10 creative mode...
If Notch really spends the majority of his money making Minecraft better for everyone, I will respect him more than I respect .. Uh. I don't have a good example, cos trust and respect isn't something that just happens in my life.. But I'll respect him nearly more than anything.

Well, logically that's the best investment he could possibly make with the money at this point. Making the game better = more players = higher profit = More development resources to make better/new games = even more players = even higher profit. The cycle goes on and on.

..Touche.
But I guess that everyone has to call it quits at some point. Those who get greedy would want to spend the money all at once straight away, but.. I guess everybody wins if he invests it all in Minecraft..

Pfff, noobs. I've been here since you could only dig down, blocks were randomly scattered, and you couldn't jump.

I'm jealous, I wish I heard about it that long ago. My life would have been full of win.
Sweden gets free education including college, healthcare, high speed INTERNET, and who the heck knows what else, for around a 50% income tax. Well worth it IMO.

In the US, I believe it would be about a third.

That band for me would be Coheed and Cambria. Second Stage Turbine Blade ftw! That was back in like 2002, way before they blew up.
Don't forget the rest of the UK. :smile.gif:
Honestly in my opinion, once SMP functions like regular alpha he's got Mincraft 1 finished.
All hail the notch for making the game I've been wanting since I first moved a pixel.
Note to self, don't be a super-villain in Sweden.
They would take everything...
