Working biomes with biome-specific mobs. Many more mobs. Sulfur for craftable gunpowder and sulfuric acid. Minecraft would become much more mainstream, with maybe 50,000 people playing at any given time. Survival multiplayer servers would be loaded with various mods - good servers would have useful and fitting mods, shitty servers would have things like "LOLRANDUM EXPLODING WATERMELLON CANNON 3000" and gravity guns.

The inquisitors were torturing Harry.
First, Ignatius used the rock.
Then Billy asked Harry if he wanted to read his BDSM blog. Harry was so surprised that his pants flew right off. He was wearing women's underpants. The inquisitors were wearing them, too.
Notch will have open-sourced it like he promised to do, and he probably will have moved on to a new project. Someone in the community, or a group, may pick up coding Minecraft, but it will probably end up as most open-source projects do, abandoned or run by a bunch or quarreling coders who branch off the project continuously. A few old-school people might host their own server and play every now and then, but expect the current state of creative multiplayer but much, much worse and in all types of multiplayer- griefers everywhere, many with super clients that use large exploits found by picking through old code or the messy new stuff added by the ad-hoc new "official" dev team, custom servers much like WOM is now with mile-thick building protection, and underpopulated servers laying continuously at the bottom of the list. Servers will be "lucky" to get more than 3 people, and even more lucky to get a legit builder.
Singleplayer would probably be played with either Notch's old versions, or the buggy new versions released by the previously-mentioned dev team. The forums would be almost completely inactive, if not shut down, as the forum members get bored with the terrible state of the game and leave one by one.
The only active communities would probably be threads on other boards running private servers.
Most likely notch will move on to new project while occasional bug fixing mine craft, the majority will be left to what people do with the games source code. (Most likely ruin it).

The future is bleak.
This happened to an old game I played to the T. I was the last old player to leave.

What game are you talking about? GMod?

I bet us Alpha players will get some sort of tag on our username to signify how old we are. Then other simpletons can graze upon our awesomeness. (Similar to TF2)
Psh, how old you are? Why, back in my day, we didn't have any of this fancy MP nonsense. We made our pixel art in singleplayer out of stone an wood and sand and BY GUM WE LIKED IT.

Are you implying that older people never play any multiplayer games? Or are you just trolling?

You guys are looking at this the wrong way. Who here actually think that no one will buy this game in 3 years? People still buy source games and they been around for 6 years.
Minecraft is finished and notch only patches it but doesnt add any new content.
He has a freakin' room full of supercomputers to hold all the new crafters greifing around on SMP and creative.
The forums are spammed with endless amounts of trolls.
And almost all the people from the alpha stage have left.
BUT there is a bright side!
Notch makes private SMP and creative servers for all the alpha people who stuck with minecraft through hell and back.
Yay.

It sort of depresses me to see all these people with such high hopes. I am not usually a downer type of person but I know reality more than most people.
the most probable outcome for Minecraft in 3 years would be a upwards climb in popularity for just long enough to keep notch interested to release several new things then a quick decline in people purchasing the game and playing will happen leaving behind only the most determined miners and those who were actually here from the start to return once its not so popular anymore and feels like old-school Minecraft again.
It'll probably be recoded and updated with more content but I cant see it going high res or anything like that. That would take a huge determined team of creators and several years alone just for that, much less that being what the game will look like in 3 years lol.
Greifers and mingebags that have been banned from countless garrysmod servers flock to minecraft and ruin the game from withing, notch then bans them.
Oh, notch finishes the game in my b leak future.

I had a similar problem. I was smoking crystal meth all night and suddenly my computer starting doing some weird stuff.

Yes, good sir. We'll have no flesh. But we'll be awesome.
Notch will have finished MC, griefing will be rampant. A few people will independently make their own good continuations when it becomes open source. GunCraft and StarMiner will be the rampant and terrible ones.

They realized that they were all men of the lord.

It's headed that way already, I hope it continues.
Or am I just joking? I think it's that last one.
Narbacular Drop wasn't a mod.

They can't do that themselves?
