I'm willing to open up a Channel for our Minecraft Community on a more popular server called the Rabiddog-Gaming server. If anyone else has a entire server devoted to minecraft itself, please feel free to do so
But as for now this is a temporary solution, if you want to go Voice Chatting among Minecraft.
Not sure how familiar you are with the Linux sound daemons, but unfortunately often WINE does not play nice with mic drivers (especially unsupported ones). In fact, there are loads of issues with WINE and sound, specifically PulseAudio.
Well pray to god you can use it, if not dual-boot with Windows XP Pro and Tinycore or Damn small linux or whatever you prefer. Just use a virutal machine if you want to. (Don't have to but meh.)
Most microphones don't need drivers in the first place, unless you mean sound drivers. Then finding a linux driver might be a bit hard.

Both the USB drivers and those that use the TRS jack on the soundcard require drivers. My TRS works, but unfortunately, my best mic is an iSight that uses a USB-style connector that requires totally separate drivers.

We already have a TS server, see http://kingnerd.wordpress.com/2009/06/20/minespeak/ .... Not that we don't need Vent, just throwing that out there.
EDIT - BTW, Vent is not cross-platform, so Linux and Mac users are in the dark here.
