I made this map especially for spleef matches. To spectate go in the front. To play go in the back.
Here are the rules taken from the Minecraft Wiki:
Objective
------------
Spleef usually takes place in an arena or stadium. In the stadium, there is a series of blocks that form a flat surface, usually several suspended blocks in the air. Two or more players in the stadium choose their positions on the slab of blocks, and after a count down, begin the game.
The goal is to destroy blocks near the player to cause them to fall, while avoiding suffering that fate. Creating blocks during the playing of Spleef is not usually allowed. The time spleef matches take depends on the size of the stadium.
Rules
-----------
Spleef has several rules in order to maintain fairness and balance. Here is the complete list.
* No creating blocks between the game's start and end
* Do not delete or create blocks after you have lost
* The losers must replace the blocks that were deleted during the game (OPTIONAL) {This will be the rule on this server}

Built to last griefers! :biggrin.gif:
A view from the stands.
I hope you enjoy it I should be on for some matches right now if anyone is interested. Here is the link to the server:
Wouldn't it be easier to have a backup of the full arena and just revert to that once the match is over?
If there was a way to keep everyone connected, yeah.
My thoughts exactly. Though I may revert back to the original every once and a while if no one is one to fix stuff griefers have messed up.
Also, I think tomorrow I'll add a second arena that's bigger for free for all matches with up to 8 or so people. :biggrin.gif: Probably 35x35 or something.
(the current arena is 20x20 if you where wondering)
Have fun!

When I was playing it yesterday on Redshift's server, we found that restoring the ground with everyone at the same time (winners and losers) went way quicker than just having the losers restore it.

Is there anything I can do to help promote and support cool stuff like spleef? =)
I bow down before the awesomeness of Notch (sorry about that! :tongue.gif:)
If you want to post a link to some of the spleef servers there are and maybe have another post about spleef sometime later like you had in your dev blog that would be awesome!
Add a Spleef gamemode, where building is limited to admins only, and some kind of scoring system?
Ya that would be pretty cool! Maybe have a way to restore the blocks once they are deleted. basically a map reset but it does not boot everyone.

Spleef is awesome.
Also, I think the pitch should have red bricks marking out "start" points for players.
That can be done easily enough but The question is how to make players put the right colored blocks back.
Maybe you could do it with shadows or something?

I find it adds a little class if spectators throw roses/carnations after someone wins a match [like in a bull fight]. It generates a feeling of victory and, if the court isn't made of soil, they disappear in a few seconds.

Thanks, I am just putting the finishing touches on the second arena.
This one is 30x15. It is meant for team spleef matches of about 6 people.
I'll post some pics in a bit! :biggrin.gif:
