Well, since I live miles away from the nearest town, it's impossible to lay cable for broadband, and satellite internet is upwards of $50 a month here, so I'm stuck with dial-up until other options pop up.
As of now, the game is perfect with my dial-up. It's really the only game I can play online. I've already bought it, and it's already well worth it, but I'm fretting the possibility of the game not working on dial-up in the future.
So, in the future, will the game ever time out on dial-up? Is there any way to avoid this in the future?
I believe Notch aims to make the game compatible with as many computers as he possibly can. I'm guessing this also means he wants the game to run smoothly on Dial-Up connections, though I know of no time he specified this.
I can't really see why it would be more difficult for you to play later on as opposed to now. If your connection is doing the trick, it probably doesn't matter how many new features get implemented; your connection will remain the same.

Things like survival mode (mass npcs) and additional tiles with more properties will increase the bandwidth load. It's entirely possible for things to get a bit more laggy but as far as the free build mode goes i bet it will remain perfectly playable on dial up.

Thank you.
