Personally, I love the game and the community but my favourite thing is the way I can join any server and be greeted by friendly people who don't mind letting me join in building with them, or mind building with me, there's no "omg noob wtf get out?" there's just "Do you like my castle, want to help?" It's brilliant and gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.
These days it's rare for something so simple to provide so much entertainment. Many game-making companies rely on shock factor (violence, gore, etc.), flashy graphics or gimmicky peripherals. Minecraft uses none of that, instead being a retro theme game playable with a simple mouse and keyboard. And even though blood will probably make it in with the advent of Survival mode, I've already spent hours (and I mean HOURS) in a totally family-friendly environment and managed to be entertained.
I think Minecraft has unlimited potential - that's why I paid for it, that's why I'm going to keep playing it, and that's why I'm proud to be here to witness it from the outset.
I simply love the simplicity of the game. I can dig, I can build, I can flood. I can build intricate shrines. I can build pyramids, castles, and sand dunes. I get to do all of that in a 100% user-created world (referencing the 256^2x64 map)
I played the game for a good three days before I decided to buy. That is because the game is simply:
i agree with all of the above, with the addition that there is a constant ongoing development, which makes every time an update is released an exciting new moment. what's new? what's changed?
i bought after one day of playing. it's the first PC game (well, Mac here, technically speaking) i've bought in years.

I've always wanted to learn editors like UnrealEd and Hammer, and go on to create amazing things, but I am simply NOT an artist.
Minecraft is totally up my alley. I'm pretty proud of some of my creations and as sad as this may sound, they are far more impressive than anything i've conjured in any game editors...
Plus, there's nothin like buildin castles in multiplayer with random friendly miners. I mean really, what comes close?

The thing i like best is the suprise. when you randomly find a cave or lava and it gives you a new idea to use.
For example: me and ultrazord were making underground houses next ot eachother when i found lava and it flooded the small space we made so far. we unflooded it and ultrazord was up to something. i found out what it was when he
made a lava pipeline. i helped extend/build it. it was a very epic pipeline and it ended in a very big space going downward with an awesome celing/wall design. i should have taken screen shots but now its ruined by greifers.

Zombies in the area will have the skin melt away and only their SKELETONS will remain, and they'll shoot ARROWS from their STERNUMS. Creepers will still explode as usual, but their suicide will also release a LAVA SPRING from their REMAINS.
I like the multiplayer and how everyone makes an effort to join in. Today I had a smashing time. We built FacePunch Road, which connected everyone's building/House together. So I would say the multiplayer. and the upcoming installments.
I brought the game within 20 minutes of playing it. Even though I had tried it before, the Multiplayer is the reason why I got it.
It's hard to explain or even understand. I guess it's like a picture where everybody adds a bit to the picture and contributes, combining their efforts and ideas and working together, as a team, towards the completion of their "dream".
I also find the character models and default skin hilarious.
