Is there anything left for people that didn't pay to play? I don't want maps that took a lot of time to make to be wiped. Sure, single player will be free (right?), but it's just not as fun as with someone else.
If you bought it and you want to play with a friend that didn't, do they also have to pay also?
I think Notch is making a mistake by charging for the game.
This game should live by the people's love for the game, not their need to play it.
I'm not the one to make that decision - and I've payed for the game anyway.
But I'll still stand by point.
I know of a lot of people who think its too expensive for what it is, and then they play for free for hours anyways.
I personally bought the game because im familiar with Notch's work and i support what he does, i like to think i donated him 10 euros and he's donating me a cool game from now on.
Eventually itll be worth the price, but im glad he at least made it half off and so you get everything else he makes for MC for free now :biggrin.gif:

I agree. But I didn't buy it yet. I want to play MineCraft with my cousin, and we're finding a way to pay for it, but we don't want to use 20euros for something we could share, if it's possible.
I think paying for it is ok but 20 euros (about $30 US) is way too much for this. Something like 5 euros ($10) is more like what I'd be willing to pay, and would still generate a pretty nice profit depending on hosting costs.

Thanks to the people who paid, Notch already made over 5000 euro's. With that money, he's able to spend more time on Minecraft, and he also bought a new server with it. You see, what we're doing right now, is pretty much founding the game by investing in it. Without the people paying, Minecraft wouldn't be where it is now, probably.
From a business perspective, free bits are like advertising. The goal is for people to hop on there, see all the cool **** the paid players are doing first-hand, and feel like they wanna buy the game to join in. So, maybe free players shouldn't get the single-player creative game. I think playing multiplayer and building your castle, and thinking, "wow, if i bought this game I wouldn't need to ban griefers every five minutes" would be a selling point.
I think shutting off the game to everyone who didn't pay will come as a shock, but it's basically the same as you get with any other game. You don't get to play HL3 before it comes out, as they're making it. So it's not /wrong/, it's just probably not a great business idea. (look how many people bought it already, despite it being free?)
Besides, this is going to be a game in the future when you HAVE to pay to use it just be glad that some features are free now at the time being. That is like complaining about other games not being free and being mad about it. As well if you don't pay and want to be able to play still that's a little bit like free loading now isn't it?

I like that idea.

The current price is only $14 :smile.gif:
Le mieux est l'ennemi du bien.
Love doesn't pay for servers or bandwidth. The cost is both modest and one time.

- Creative Mode
- Creative Mode Multiplayer
In beta, paying players should have:
- Survival Tests
- Skin Chooser
+ All the free things
Also, 10 euros really isn't that much; it's roughly around $15.00 USD.
Plus you get to support Notch directly and the development even further.
