I like it with both, but what I think the real question is, is it practical in that location? Being that it seems to be the End-Tower on your wall, a garrison commander would likely have it roofed for some sentries to stay between shifts, protection from the elements and a place of rest. Therefore it would be a important post and would be practical to maintain the roof through-out the seasons. However doing that to each tower would not be practical unless you have a city that reflects the population and wealth needed to sustain such an expenditure.

All the towers have an interior that is protected from the elements, the guards can switch who is inside away from the elements and who is up top.
This place must be cursed, my hard drive is failing, and so far I have been unable to get any data out of it, but I am still trying, I have a new hard drive in now, and my old one is safe till I find the next thing to try on it.
If you want awe inspiring make it huge, you can make a gate to each of the cardinal directions for the roads, if you need help making circles, or spheres, try http://www.plotz.co.uk/, My stuff usually is not sized for Minecraft initially, I have to resize some things after it is built. I have found doing a basic grounds layout with something like mspaint can help keep things organized, you can also use the presets settings for the superflat maps to generate huge villages you can use around your castle.
-edit I forgot to add there is a map program, http://mc-map.djfun.de/, you can do awesome stuff easily with it.
Try negotiating with it then.
