I'm building a map for a server, and one part of it will be a temple. I want the temple's main room to look better lit. What are some ways I can light it, and look good at the same time? The torches don't look the greatest.
I don't mind any criticism for stuff rather than the lighting too.
Maybe you could add some glass into the roof, or another transparent block such as leaves. You could also add big windows. These would make it much brighter during the day.

How could I forget windows in a temple? I'll probably do that.
Support beams? Have some rafters going across the roof to give the impression that they are holding it up. then you can add 'chandeliers' with redstone lamps hanging from them.

Humanity is the creation of Logic and Emotion, Calculation and Imagination, Cold Analysis and Blind Faith. This is why I believe it is a strange Human that would prize one while shunning the other. For a calculator can do math just as well as you, but a calculator can not use math to make the world a better place.
Definitely as Kinzale said, windows will help improve the lighting during the day. I like that you have the floor lanterns in the center. If the walls are too dark at night, maybe adding some tall fence posts along the edge of the pews with torches on top, like candle stands, will light up the place. I'm not quite sure what they're called exactly:
But there's a picture of what I mean.

Some glass for ambiance.
Like some said up above have a Chandelier.
Maybe some pictures if you use good ones.
