When I first got 1.8 and started playing, I was very excited to see that in creative mode you could fly. So I quickly jumped into a random creative mode save and couldn't figure it out. This could help you too if you get in this situation.
Just double tap space and hold to go up and hold shift to go down. As soon as you touch the ground though, you have to start again. It's a bit frustrating when your speeding through caves when you have to keep stopping and starting. This new addition in 1.8 has made it easier than having to get toomanyitems and singleplayer commands just to be able to easily make big structures that require lots of blocks and flying to get to the hard places. Also in survival mode, when you are making things on your crafting table, you can hold shift and click the item that you're making and it will use all the items in the 3x3 grid and put it automatically in your inventory. This is useful for making lots of unstackable items and torches. Any other questions about the new 1.8 update or any other minecraft questions i will happily answer.

Thanks, i slowly learnt the controls, i still think Toomanyitems mod is better than the Creative mode. BTW, can you play survival mode on a map then play creative mode next? Vice versa.

No you can't play survival mode on a map then play creative on the same map. I have tried many times with my previous building map that i made heaps of awesome things on. I just had to get toomanyitems and single player commands again.

For whatever reason, flying "down" requires pressing the "C" key. Shift key does nothing for me.

Yes, but I think toomanyitems is just a bit easier than creative because you can turn creative off and on, change the time, and change the weather.
Creative is only good to get unlimited blocks to make big structures :tongue.gif:
