Ok so I login and minecraft 1.8 starts updating it gets to some percentage then stops, it then says fatal occurred. I need help!

I could just be a issue with the update server being flooded with to many connections right now. Ive never ran into this so I'm not 100% sure on it, perhaps you can try deleting everything but your saves folder inside of your .minecraft folder

I had to delete my bin folder, then re-download through Mycraft.

Hmm maby you have deleted the whole bin except the minecraft.jar that used to happend to me. just delete the whole minecraft.jar then your good to go.
