Hello! My first post was about a problem that I have since solved! And now, time to show what I've been working on so far!
Wheel... Of... *Record Scratch* Minecraft?
One day at work I ended up getting an idea to re-create various Game Shows in Minecraft. It was partially spurned on by watching a twitch stream that Dream made a while back of a "Deal or No Deal" type game. It was made out of wood if I remember, and chests, and I just kinda... eh. It was fun to watch, but the artistic side of me screamed that more could be done, with or without shaders. So I got to work!
Fun fact: The diameter of the actual Wheel in Wheel of Fortune is about 6 feet - a little smaller than TWO Minecraft blocks wide if things were done to scale! The entire assembly makes everything seem bigger but sure enough, if you look at a freeze-frame of the game show, the weel is only a little bit larger than an average contestant, if they lay across it!
So I hadn't taken new pictures BEFORE this point, but I created a set inspired by Wheel of Fortune! I took some liberties for Minecraft, such as making the wheel about 2x larger - allowing for 12 total "wedges" (or panels). At this point, I used black concrete for the floor, with black stained glass on top. I had been using the BSL Shaders with OptiFine up until now, as well! It looks pretty neat though!
Here you can see the player area more clearly. Up until now, this build is half for fun, and half with the idea that I might actually try and make this functional, somehow, probably with command blocks and such. It would be so cool if I could make this functional somehow...
Now, at this point, I was at a dilemma. The puzzle board is as important as the wheel, yet there are two ways to make it. The first would be to use dedicated banners. People have totally made it this way, before:
The problem, however, is that I like being different. Or difficult. They both start with the letter D, so I don't know! That said, I decided to create a texture pack!
And after some tinkering around in MSPaint, this was the first version! I since modified the green blocks to have a cube in it (instead of the Wheel of Fortune circle normally used), but either way, I feel it looks really awesome!
And then, disaster struck. In the form of OptiFine (or Forge. Not sure which).
For some reason, OptiFine or Forge doesn't like this resource pack. I've been making one for my server before this, and it works fine, but it can't handle this one. I don't know why or how, but I have since ditched OptiFine and Forge, in lieu of Fabric and Canvas (and many other mods that make Minecraft run better than it ever did with OptiFine)!
And at that point, here's where I'm at:
So far I'm loving how it looks, though I'd love input! Do you think the SSR looks good, or should I continue "faking" the reflections? At this point most of what I am going to do will deal with my resource pack but I plan to update with more images soon!
