I want to place a grass block that looks like it is in desert biome - I'm in creative mode, the biomes are all the same - any way to change biome and/or grass block so that it looks like its from (X) biome?
worldedit-forge (mod) can do that with the //setbiome command. It only changes the weather and the color of existing blocks. It does/will not change any blocks already generated except their appearance. If used in a forest and changed to desert, no blocks will become sand. I hope that's clear.

wanted a way to do this without mods :/
You could use the setBiome filter in MC Edit, which isn't a mod.
