I currently have two commands for this, one of which i have worked into perfection. like the above has stated though needs to be hooked up to a real fast clock ether a /setblock redstoneblock air combo or set on the repeat setting in the newer 1.9
this is actually not a following fireball anymore because of the way fireballs behave now, so this should work in 1.8 but it doesn't work in the new snapshot :|...... total bummer. it seems to summon a line of fireballs.....
i'll see about how to fix this.
replace yourname with yourname ingame
ok so i got it can be done with 3 commands set on repeat and always on
If you type /particle hit space then press tab. oh looky there a buncha particles :o. I didn't know that was there.
now you don't have to click the link.
If doing this doesn't work for you, then play a higher version. I play on the new 15w44a snapshot, and my screen is soooo smooth.
it doesnt handle a whole whole bunch but it can handle 2 contious fireballs exploding without too bad of a drop in fps. I can still see it stream through the air quite nicely. along with like 6 shulker bullets.... and 6 pieces of falling sand......
so many particles on those explosions though..... so now i have 4 fireballs in it..... and yeah and its not too bad, totally playable and seeable.
Follow this command that i show you: /execute player name ~ ~ ~ /particle smoke ~ ~0.1 ~ 0.2 0 0.2 0.001 100

Use a fast redstone clock like i have here

Because i find this way easier and better

this is the zelda fairy that follows you around:
/execute @e[name=yourname] ~ ~1.50 ~-1.20 particle magicCrit ~ ~1.50 ~ 0.001 0.001 0.001 0.0001 1
this is a following small fireball
/execute @e[name=yourname] ~ ~2 ~-1.20 summon SmallFireball ~ ~ ~

I seriously don't get redstone at all just saying
i found this super helpful and have used this in a map CREDITS TO YOU!!!
BTW, in 1.9, you can set the command block to repeat and it will execute the command SUPER fast, faster than any clock.
None of thoes work :/
