I've tried 3 different 1.8 villager breeding farms but none seem to work reliably (and I couldn't have built all 3 of them wrong right??)
What seems to happen is that even if I force my villagers to be willing (by feeding them stacks and stacks and stacks of bread, wheat, carrots, and potatoes) they never actually do the deed. Hearts will fly and they'll get close to each other but nothing occurs. Mob griefing is on yadda yadda...
Has anyone successfully been able to breed villagers with the new update reliably? Some of the designs are broken because our Farmers don't uproot crops when they're hungry but force-feeding them manually doesn't work either.

I'm currently using a super flat test world with no other villages around, but I do have a prototyped iron farm with 30 villagers ~70 blocks away. Those 30 + my 2 villager breeding pair should be well under the cap for the chunks around me.
I'll try to isolated them even further by doing another super flat test world sometime this weekend with nothing else in it.
Then you are right, it should be working. I haven't been able to understand it either. I took an existing town with plenty of doors but they just show hearts but nothing happens. In the new town they are breeding just fine.
An older town used to be well populated but numbers have been diminished. I can't seem to rejuvenate that town. Since there were plenty at one time, I know the doors are valid, just can't figure out what is wrong.
In another town I built, I brought villagers in but they they did nothing and have since disappeared.
I have also built a villager breeder and for a while it was working like a charm... aside from the farmer not picking the crops himself... but I would pick them and then throw the food and they would breed just fine. I stocked up 2 basic iron farms with the offspring, so 32 villagers out of it. But now and without any changes to the breeder they have stopped poppin' the babies. Same thing as you are saying, they both have the hearts and look deeply into each others eyes for a few seconds but then nothing happens. I dont know what to do to try and fix this, hopefully it will be patched.
Mob griefing is on yah? They seem to not pick up food if it's off.. Sadly there is also a villager cap ): wish they would lift the caps in general for next gen consoles atleast

Try moving the breeder further away from the iron farm. It should be at least 120 blocks away and have no doors of any type around the breeder other than what is required in the build. It could possibly be that the biome is incorrect. Even though the world is a custom super-flat, the code in the game may see the area as a biome other than Plains, Desert, or Savannah which are the only areas where a village can exist.
Look at the villager breeding video that Skippy6Gaming did on YouTube and maybe try that design if it is different than the one that you are using.

Is there a link to the wiki about the 120 block distance? My iron farm is a simple tower design and each platform is 66 blocks apart from the center and that seems to work fine to not have the villages merge. I'll see if I can do it 120 books away though in case... most time I figure people on you tube just blurt out the safest possibly number when you could actually be closer.

Docm77 iron golem farm video it's old but it does explain the basics of how far away u can make iron farms (exact same mechanics work for breeding villagers) but that farm design has worked for the last 2-3 years in pc and I've never really had a problem using it on console what's more is built right u can stack that design...
working with spawn chunks or even centralising it around an afk platform you could possibly pull off 8 cells assuming the console cap for villagers allows it
This was a prior version world so I decided to reset everything by breaking every door and killing every villager and then putting them all back. That seemed to work and now I have 3 tower floors and a breeder in the same general area.
I currently have 30 Villagers in my world. I have built a Villager breeding station, automatic farms to feed these villagers, and a villager trading station. All of these were working perfectly fine for the past week. Today however, all the villagers in my whole entire world have just stopped breeding altogether. Not even showing hearts. This is both in the Breeder AND in the NPC village.
I throw stacks and stacks of food (Wheat (to farmers), Carrots, potatoes, and bread) at them and these stacks will just sit there on the ground. They won't even pick the items up. Any villager, not just the farmers.
I have restarted my world several times and this does not help. Even exiting to the Sony XMB screen and then reloading the game doesn't work.
I've gone around my world killing off any unessential villager I found. Leaving me with just 30 villagers total.
Before they stopped breeding altogether, they would just show hearts and not produce baby villagers at all, but exiting and reloading the world would get them breeding again (Same with the farmers harvesting crops) but now, nothing happening at all.
Now I know you'll have to reproduce this, but this was all working fine for the past week and all of a sudden stopped. I can only suggest that you build a farm, and have them breed like crazy and kill off the extras as they are produced. This is all in Survival Mode too on PS3 BTW.
I've done it 3 different ways and all have been successful. I ended up with my design of building it in water to protect it from hostile mobs. I also am able to get them to breed on the collection floor and I have forced underground tunnel that's brings them to the real village automatically. I make sure I build breeder 65 blocks away from all doors, chest, trap doors, gates or any other possible interference. Real simple works every time. Only need to maybe throw seeds at them once in a while or do a couple of trades to help get them going. Basically I build a 5x5x1 level with a 1 block gap around to outside wall. At eye level I place a fence or glass plane to keep adults from falling of ledge but allows new ones to drop down 2 lvls below both levels are farmed which helps them. On the top 5x5 I put 2 villagers then from that lvl I build a 9x3 hole offset one block 7lvls below the first lvl and place 1 villager qith3 rows of doors X3 with roof over door area. Whole area has to be exposed to sun in both. Bad explanation on my part but the little things like doors in area can hold it up.

I'm no expert, but I have heard that killing a villager will cause the other's not to breed. Not sure your method of killing them off, but this might be something to consider.
Does having them jump in water like the cows/pigs help them to breed faster?? I've started incorporating this into my newer breeders in the basement of my golem farms.

I have a thriving village of 7 villagers that I created just a few days ago under the 1.8 update.
Each home is 5x5 or larger.
I have 10 houses and about 20+ doors combined (Some houses have 2 or 3 doors)
Each house is lit well both inside and out
Most homes have a piece of furniture (I doubt this helps but I like it)
No doors mirror one another (I have read that this cancels out the door)
I trade with each villager as much as possible (no clue if this helps but it certainly doesn't hurt)
My village has both a well and a farm, again not sure if these are necessary, just stating my recipe for the record.
I can increase my population now just by adding doors. It's quite entertaining and I hope you figure it out.
I have not been that successful. Seems bugged. My experience has been the same as the first guy.
We managed to breed them in a new village we built. Be sure you aren't at the cap for the chunk you are in.
That said, I have had troubles in a different town with the same results as you are describing. Not sure what the difference is.

Did you happen to have any doors near by the farm? I assume you are using an actual breeder not a random world village?

Yes, those are the towers that mine are based off of (66 blocks between bottom of 1st floor to bottom of 2nd floor though -- only 66 are necessary as per the wiki http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Village#Advanced_village_placement).
I got my breeder to work though!

If it helps, the global villager cap on the Xbox 360 is 40 per entire world... might it be the same on the Xbox One?

I'd put something really fancy here, but I really don't have the energy to......do.....th'
