As you all know, we end up with a lot of cobblestone. My previous storage system was just a cellar with a ton of chests of this stuff. I even had to begin carving out a sub-cellar to store it all. It was also a pain because I only wanted to be taking cobblestone out of a single chest so that I didn't have a bunch of half-filled chests (of course, I would add to this same chest till it was full, then move on to the next one).
So, has anyone come up with a system that can chain a lot of chests together, that only has one drop-off and one pick-up point (as in, one chest I put new cobblestone in, and one chest I take cobblestone out of). I went looking on youtube, but only found a system that was two double chests, and a minecart chest - so it did not have the amount of storage capacity I am seeking.
I came up with an overly elaborate hopper, minecart+hopper, and a dropper chain, but once the output chest is filled, the system will back up and jam.
First of all, the design you are talking about that has the two chests and a minecart chest, the trick to that one is that you can have as many minecart chests in the same block as you want, meaning that you could basicly have infinite storage, the major downside to that one is that minecart chests cause ALOT of lag, and thats very disapointing.
Now, you didnt specify the way you wanted the storage, as if it mattered if all the chests were linked up verticaly, horizontaly, etc...Now, the way that I do my bulk storage is by just putting the chests in the same manner as "Tango Tek" does in his Item Silo, but thats not very appealing since it could end up being insanely high, but as you said, you input from the top, output from the bottom.
And also, you could just put chests in a row next to each other, with hoppers below them going into another row of chests, and then the last row of chests you make, connect then all and into one chest.
Sorry if I didnt explain myself very well, I suck at explaining xD, anyways I hope it was of some use atleast
I'll look into it. The way I hve everything set up now, everything goes into one chest, and is then sorted into spaces. Each item has a three double chest capacity. The capacity can easily be added to.
I guess I should have mentioned I am working towards building a "castle" of sorts that focuses on density, not mass size. Currently, I am working just under the surface of where my "industry" quarter resides, so width/length have already been determined.
I have come up with a system but have some timing issues to tweak, in addition to rigging the redstone mechanics to update when I return to the chunk/game, so that I do not have to reset the system every time.
The only thing I can think of is a drop-off and pickup system with hoppers and hidden storage. That should be possible but I don't see it as something that will save you actual space, it would just hide the chests in the same way that you hide redstone behind walls.
I was planning on making a youtube video of my system, in addition to a how-to video, but I can just invite you instead. I don't really have tons of time to try editing a video, practicing the dialogue, and addign dub-step to the intro....
