Ok, so I downloaded Minecraft for Xbox One (haven't done it on the ps4 yet but I plan to) and I noticed that I am the ONLY person on my friends list that plays this game! A few of my friends have the game but they never logon and play!
My question is a simple one: Is there not a way to make my game truly "online" where anyone on xbox one can see it and join it? I always select online but I am assuming that that is just for friends to be able to see it. I don't want to start messaging random people on xbox one to ask if they play minecraft. I always thought the entire point to making trapdoors etc was so that you could build a place, set it up, log off, and then see what carnage ensues while you aren't online. Now I find out that the world my friends and I were doing can't be played because the guy that started the world never logs in and so I end up playing the game by myself and starting a new level etc and I just find it to be very boring without anyone else to play along with!! Would love to see this game become truly "online" where you can just stick it out there and anyone can join!
No, there's not a way to make it "truly online" (for any console). They don't work like the PC does. And you're right- the host must have his console on, and MC running, in order for someone to join the world
In order for your friends to play, you need to add them in your Friends list, checkmark the game as "Online", and optionally checkmark if you allow "Friends of friends". In other words, only listed friends (or their listed 'friends') can see or join your world. You might want to check the consoles multiplayer section in the wiki, or the multiplayer section for consoles in this forum.
Thank you for the reply. I figured that it wasn't truly online in the sense of anyone anywhere could see it and join. That's OK as I am sure I'll find some players to mesh with at some point. Just gets kinda boring after a bit of doing this by yourself.
