Do these new varieties of trees grow underground? I've been trying to get dark oak trees to grow underground and not having any luck. The area is well lit. The room is 20 x 20 wide and 11 tall and the closest I've been planting to any wall is on the 5th block away from it. No luck so far. Haven't tried yet with the Acacias. Any ideas?

Have you tried a stack of bonemeal to force growth. If that doesn't work then a fundamental is likely wrong like maybe higher room.
Thanks Baldur. Giving the trees a couple more blocks worth of head room did the trick.
