We just caught one on survival on Xbox. I've attached a photo. I can't link you guys to the video that has us capturing him but I can link you to the one with us repeatedly blowing him up
Have you guys seen one? Are they rare or am I just unlucky?
I've seen 1 charged creeper swimming toward land in one of my ocean (survival island) worlds... it was before name tags were introduced, so I really had no way to contain him so that he wouldn't despawn, so I ended up killing him while he was in the water.
I've been trying to get one forever. I have a pen of about 30 Creepers (all named "Friend") on a creative world. Whenever it starts thundering I wait nearby, but have had no luck.
Never seen one yet, but live in hope. What's the deal with creepers and name tags? Is there a trick to tagging them before they explode in your face? And once tagged, do they remain hostile? I shall have to try it as I have 5 or 6 spare tags.
It won't tame them... you'll have to tag quickly and run away, be invisible to them, or otherwise escape their notice, or they will explode, but it will make it so they won't automatically despawn when you move more than 128 blocks away from them... so you could (in theory) pen them up as a zoo exhibit of sorts.

Well my Creeper pen is on my Super flat test world, so none of them were aggro toward me. But I think the best way to do it in Survival would be to cage them in somewhere, somehow, leaving a 1x1 window that you can reach through to tag the creeper with and move out of sight quickly enough.
I added the Charged Creeper just recently. When we name creepers, there are usually 2 of us and one person distracts the creeper while the other names it. If you watch our videos though, you'll see that it isn't always as easy as it sounds..
Yeah, I built a zoo at the weekend and now have a zombie, a creeper and a skelly. It was easier than expected with the creeper, just one crater out the building! The skelly was actually harder as he had rapid fire with immense knockback. The spider is proving to be a little trickier though, as it seems to have difficulty entering the building through a double door, but can easily escape back through a single block gap once he's in! I will persevere though. Is it possible to contain an enderman? Perhaps in a cell lined with water?
Watched some of your videos, they're really good. I was impressed with the bat! Funnily enough, i'd been wondering about catching a bat and wasn't sure if it was possible till I saw that. I was levelling a smallish hill to make space for my museum/zoo i'm building and left the top layer of the hill as I planned to make it a hidden building in the hill. Then I started hearing cave type noises and a bat was flying about so I assumed that the game was recognising the hollowed out hill as a cave maybe?
Anyway, I really like your stuff so i'll subscribe to your channel. Thanks for the links, very encouraging!
It really isn't that hard to produce charged creepers. Your basically creating a farm, that's high in the air. You'll want a good influx of mobs, so a small farm that has few spawn pads isn't a good idea, the more pads and the quicker you can get to weeding them out the better as often you'll arrive at the farm when a storm is ongoing, and if it takes too long for your mobs to reach the platform where your hoping lighting will strike then the storm will be over before any creepers become charged.
The goal is to weed out all mobs by creepers and dump them onto several different 5 x 5 platforms, we use a binary counter that automatically routes the creepers to the correct platform, but one only needs 1 platform, however additional platforms increase the chances of lighting strikes hitting them. In all our testing we've found that the best standing position is approximately 16 to 20 blocks from where you want lightning to strike. It doesn't always happen, but with 3 5x5 platforms, you'll get a strike about 1x every 5 runs. Which will charge every creeper on the platform, at that point you'll probably want to setup drop shafts and streams to carry the creepers to the desired location.
You can use iron golems to kill off everything but the creepers. however skeletons will eventually kill off the iron golems, and they will need to be replaced.
I've herd tell of people saying that lighting will strike iron bars more often, as its metal, but while sifting through the PC code I didn't find any evidence of this. You want to create the farm in the air, because there is special cases where lighting strikes are to occur 'on' or 'near' a player, and if your high in the air with as few places to strike as possible your somewhat controlling where lighting can strike during these special rolls.
Its been along time since i've been on the world with this farm, but last time i recall something like 11 charged creepers at one time. I believe DocM77 currently holds the record with something like 19 or 21 charged creepers with 1 strike.
We used them to auto break blocks, though, we didn't just use 'charged' creepers, we used regular creepers as well, basically we had an obsidian room with a set of rail tracks leading into the room, a player in a minecart would travel through the room where a creeper was waiting, with either wood or cobblestone or smooth stone, was pushed into the room, the creeper would see the player start to explode but the player would be gone just in time to avoid the blast damage, however the blocks in the room would be turned into their entities and flushed out of the room. Back then we didn't have hoppers to pick up the items so we dropped them onto the player in the mind cart whom then would stick them into a chest. With the press of a button the process would repeat. There was some loss in the explosions however, was a great project, and we had alot of fun building it.

Good to know they exist, though.

Happy hunting.
I have an entire Zoo done completely in Survival.

We were able to catch an enderman using teamwork. I have videos for every single mob that we caught. Here's the enderman one..

Cire360, what did you do with all the charged creepers? Was the farm just for fun or was it part of some larger plan?

I have seen one but unfortunately I was in creative though
This one wasn't "produced" though, we found it naturally.
