Despite entertaining the idea I don't see a purpose for a Miner profession. The blacksmith fills the role just fine.
Disagree... the Blacksmith only Buys ingots coal diamond and sells weapons, armors, and tools
There's no one that will sell these raw components (coal, iron, gold, lapis, diamond, quartz), or buy ores (iron ore, gold ore).
The nearby cave restriction for spawning is an unnecessary game mechanic, golems spawn naturally with high enough village population.. having a villager specifically craft one is similarly an unnecessary game mechanic.

I understand where you're coming from, but I was only remarking on the Miner villager that was presented in the OP. Maybe if the console gets the new 'micro-professions' that the PC recently got, then yes!, the Miner might fill a niche. But with the current professions I don't see the need.
Besides I doubt that anyone would be that hard-up for coal that they're willing to part with an emerald. There's charcoal for a reason.
As for buying ingots, it would be easier to add a trade to the blacksmith than code for a whole new profession.
Like the idea, i've been wanting to have a sustainable source to get diamonds forever, and since you can't trade to get a diamond, it's impossible. I want to make like a bunker that gives me almost everything infinitely. I think this is a much needed profession. I don't know about the mine with you part though, it might need to just be a villager that sells stuff. Great Idea Though! Plz add it 4J, as an console exclusive.
-Only spawns when there's an above ground cave 50 blocks away or less from the village
-Over time, can make iron golems (if town's natural one was killed)
(MAYBE)-Can recruit it to mine with you
TRADE IDEAS (Left = Villager Right = Player)
8-19 torches - 1 Emerald
5-11 coal - 1 Emerald
1 Diamond - 3 Emeralds
Stack of 64 cobblestone - 2 Emeralds
Half broken, enchanted pickaxe - 7 Emeralds
What do you think of this idea? I'll keep updating this as comments go by!

MAKIN LOVE!
sorry was mating the villager for 12 hour yesterday
I agree. Even though blacksmiths give ingots, armor, tools, and food, the Miner would be useless.
I still am eager to know how he would look though
^^^^ Click it! You know you want to...
Can you buy ingots from the blacksmith? I thought you could only sell ingots to the blacksmith.
