I can't find the thread I was reading, but I noticed that there still seems to be some confusion about what exactly will not generate when the "generate structures" toggle is turned off. To answer this question, I ran a test using identical survival only seeds created today (I used the Seed "48" (without the quotes) since it was a seed submitted in the seeds section with loads of coordinates for villages, dungeons, mineshafts, and the stronghold. (Thank you to InYourEndOhSNAP for submitting such a thoroughly explored seed to the list). I generated one copy with "generate structures on and confirmed the location of the 2 villages, 1 zombie dungeon, 1 mineshaft, and the stronghold. Then I made a nether portal near the stronghold and located the nether fortress (all done without leaving survival mode). Then I went the same coordinates in the second seed that I had generated with the "generate structures" toggle turned off:
1) The villages did not generate in the OFF world.
2) The Zombie dungeon DID generate in both worlds.
3) The mineshaft did not generate in the OFF world.
4) The stronghold did not generate in the OFF world.
5) The nether fortress DID generate in both worlds.
I was a part of the confusion in the other thread and realized after I posted that dungeons do spawn with generate structures off. Thanks for doing the work to get a real answer.
So since the stronghold did not generate in the OFF world, then the end portal also did not generate? You could not throw an eye of ender?
This is all correct. The end portal did not generate in the OFF world and the Eye of Ender does not leave your hand at all... no pop, no particles, no response at all.
Good job clearing that up! I don't usually play with generate structures OFF, and I didn't realize that the nether forthress would still spawn... And thanks for the mention!

Hi, I'm "Endo" and I play MCXBLA. Also, check out this Facebook page I made specifically for my MCXBLA pictures.
Mostly same results with generate structures off.
However, the only "Nether fortress" I have found on my map was basically just 2 blaze traps with some stairs up to them and one open wall tower. Not a real complete building.
So I guess you still get a nether fortress with generated structures off because you can reset the nether and you can not do that with the end or the normal world.

The sort of fortress you get in the nether is dependent on your seed. The same one should generate in that seed even when you generate it with "generate structures" turned on. I haven't got time to run tests of my own today, but anyone can give this a try by generating the same TU16 seed twice... once with structures on and once with structures off. The two fortresses should be exactly the same.

Overlooked testing that. I will go back and specifically test this aspect in both worlds right now and get back to you. Thanks for bringing it up.

Nicely done on satisfying my curiosity on the Stronghold part of it.
Stay fluffy~
