Intro
I am creating this thread to suggest a new UI for The Wii U edition of Minecraft because I do not feel like this one meets the full potential of the Wii U.
Currently, the UI is almost exactly as it is on Xbox or any other console. But with the use of the gamepad, the Wii U is capable of much more. Instead of showing the same thing on both screens, the Wii U can show a different thing on each screen. For example, in Splatoon, a map is shown on the gamepad's screen and the game is showed o the monitor. Implementing this could help solve the annoying keyboard popping up on the screen. Just show the keyboard on the gamepad and not the monitor. Also, since the gamepad has a touchscreen, even more potential is created. You could have buttons directly on the gamepad that you could tap. This suggestion implements all of these in some way to create a more satisfactory UI.
Suggestion
Okay, now onto the actual suggestion. The basic idea of this suggestion is that all inventory and container UIs are displayed on the gamepad instead of popping up on the screen. As an example of this, I will use the inventory UI.
Right now you must use joysticks and buttons to work with the inventory. Also, you do not have easy access to your inventory when being attacked. You must hit the button and the mob can attack you while you are trying to get your stuff. My idea is that the inventory is always displayed using the gamepad. It is controlled using the touchscreen on the gamepad.
The controls would be simple. Tap on an item to pick it up. Tap on an empty slot to place the entire stack. Tap and hold on an item to cut the stack in half. Tap and hold on an empty slot to place one of the items in your stack into that slot. Drag on empty slots to distribute those items through those slots.
With this new UI, you always have easy access to your inventory and can move the items quite quickly. This allows for more time to get out of a pickle you could be in. It allows you to never lose focus on the game.
UIs like chests and crafting tables would also show up on the gamepad and would work in almost the same way. Near the top of the gamepad, there will be a button to go back to your inventory.
This would allow you to still access the UI of a chest or crafting table even if you are away from the block. But you can't access the inventory. I think this could make for some interesting strategies.
To download the other ones you need to make a folder in the versions folder for minecraft and put the client and JSON file for the versions in there. They all need to be named the same aside from file extensions. Once you do that, you will be able to choose that version when making a new profile with the minecraft launcher.
While your suggestion is a good use of the features provided by nintendo, Minecraft is a game that is designed to be close to the same no matter where you play it.
The changes you outline would give a huge advantage in 'panic' and pvp situations, and create an imbalance in the gameplay between consoles. Besides, 4j can't even fix the bugs they introduce, they aren't goanna devote resources to developing a one off ui for an old gen system.

Still, its a pretty good idea.
I see the problem. What if servers/players could restrict players from using these controls. If they are restricted, their controls would revert back to how they are currently.

Those are still downloadable! Watch this video for 2.0:
