Hello all. I have recently begun tinkering with building an adventure map and would like to get some ideas from people with more experience. I just recently found out what adventure mode is, and thought that I could make a pretty neat map for it. What I have been planning and trying to do is use different tools as keys to unlock new areas. So once they have a sword they can cut through leaves to get new places, once they have a shovel they can dig out gravel to get new places, and same idea for axes and pickaxes.
The issue I have is that I need to use blocks that they can break without picking up blocks to use on the platforming parts and/or blocks to make tools with. I figure a wooden fence is ok to use as a gate for an axe, but it could be placed somewhere and jumped upon later and could effect a puzzle or platforming part. Is there something that can only be broken by an axe that doesn't leave a block to pick up, or can't be jumped on? Same question for the shovel, sand or gravel are ok since they won't help you cross really high pits, but they can be used other places. Also, I was thinking how best to use pickaxes since different kinds can break different blocks.
Firstly, what blocks can't be broken by anything? Like what should I use to build my world that can't be destroyed? I wasn't going to give the player a diamond or iron pickaxe, just wood and stone. Can you break obsidian with another pickaxe besides diamond and it just won't drop a block? I don't want to have to build all of the walls out of just bedrock. I was planning on using iron ore to block the way and then giving the player a wooden pickaxe so they can break it but won't get any blocks from it. Does this work in adventure mode, or do you have to have a stone pickaxe to mine iron ore at all? What blocks are breakable but don't leave you any blocks which you could place and jump on? Are their any weird tools that some blocks can only be broken by? In one video I saw you can break wool with shears, can wool only be broken by shears? Any other things like that? I saw some stuff about what can break certain blocks, but it didn't talk about different types of pickaxes or whether blocks could only be broken by certain tools.
I thought that this was a cool idea to make an adventure map on PS3 since we can't use command blocks like PC. I was taking inspiration from games like "A Link to the Past" where finding a new item means you can unlock new areas and go back to find hidden chests that are now accessible with your new item. I just need to know what blocks are exclusive to what tools, and what blocks don't drop anything useful. I don't want to turn all block drops off because some of my puzzles involve using debris or mined blocks to solve. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, or if this just sounds interesting to you and you'd like to try it when it's done just message me below. Thanks for reading!
