Created an account just to add here. Jan 2017 and our PS3 has been doing this for months. Always in survival mode for us (though that's what we play 90% of the time). My husband and I and our two children are so sick of playing and losing so much progress. It causes the kids to be frustrated and upset, which makes them not want to play with us anymore (which obviously isn't as fun). Even when my husband and I play alone we always end up not playing for a month or so after we lose a huge chunk of progress on our "adult" world from this error. We tried to play tonight and we let it crash 3 times before we finally threw in the towel for good.
I've had that same issue. Here's what I did, and it reduced the chances of that message occurring. First, I disabled autosave, then I turned the system off for 5 minutes and then turned it back on. After that, I turned on autosave to where it only does it every 15 min.
Any additional worlds that can be provided will help us track this down further.
If you are still seeing this on your world please upload it to Mediafire and drop it our way.
Why upload? This happens with EVERY SINGLE WORLD. Example of my latest crash: started world with settings default, map pack: default. Let world load. Left game completely alone, was on phone reading. 30 minutes later I decide to press select on controller. Crash (Minecraft has failed to load and cannot continue)... So... This tells me the problem is some form of memory leak or is taking to much memory to run the game on this old console. This question of why it crashed when NOTHING was done in that world, let's debate... What is running in the background if a character in game is standing still? These are the areas of code that need to be looked at. Something is causing this bug and it has nothing to do with GUI or flying around on creative, loading areas blah blah blah. This happens as time PASSES. Maybe the weather, Maybe spawn ticks, something that happens in time.. Without you having to do anything... Ideas please?
EDIT: also it happens during saving. Not so much on single player though in my experience. If it crashes on single player due to saving it's usually the preparing chunks loading bar that gets stuck. With 2,3 and 4 players in game, I notice if it crashes its also the saving mechanism. But instead of the loading bar getting stuck, it crashes as autosave initiates. Black screen before loading screen even shows. Again if I may emphasize and recapitulate, this happens on every single map I make no matter what is being done in game, even if it's a new world and I stand completely still. Hope this helps narrow things down or gives a few ideas.
Can't help but to feel that this hasn't been resolved due to marketing, why fix it when it urges you to buy a new console, game copy, then all the dlc you lost. Doesn't happen on ps4 or Xbox one. God forbid something this game breaking happen to the newer releases. They would be fixed in a 48 hour patch. This has been going on since 2015...2017 is here now... Hello? Some people can't afford top dollar consoles but that shouldn't make us chopped liver...

Have you actually played the PS4 or XBO versions? They are not without their own issues.

I've played both PS3 and PS4 - PS4 has minor issues but nothing which even vaguely compares to the broken-game trainwreck that is Minecraft PS3 Edition.
Mojang/4j should seriously refund anyone who wants a refund. They won't, but they should. The game is broken and has been for years.
Any additional worlds that can be provided will help us track this down further.

What really bothers me about 4J Studios is the fact that they ask us(Paid Customers); to upload our save files(worlds) to a third-party website, so they can examine them. Are they not capable of providing a page on their own support site for this to be possible? (Why are we not provided with a code for a free skin, or something of the sort when we take our personal time TO DO 4J STUDIOS JOB as well?) I thought that they were paid money to port, and fix the issues that console players experience while playing minecraft? Clearly that is not the case as we have been dealing with game breaking issues for over 2 years now....
The crashing and auto saves hanging up used to be a minute random occurrence. Now it's happening on a regular basis, and happens at least once during every play session. I can't complete a task the first time around anymore. I'm so anxious whenever I save now, or see it getting ready to save, or turn off auto save only for the disk to fail to load. I was stuck in a mineshaft for a week because i kept losing progress everytime i left it. Saving manually doesn't help, turning on auto save doesn't help, turning it off doesn't help. Nothing can be done about preventing progress being lost one way or another.
I have pc game. I think i may have to just give up on console.edition even if i can't handle the controls or map a controller on pc perfectly.
So, as you are ALL aware the freeze, fail to load, and crash issue continues. I did yet another update today and yep...issue still exists. I am unable to manually save as this crashes the game almost every time even with small changes to the map. Sleeping also crashes my game almost every time. Auto save crashes about every other. Sometimes I am having to force quit the Playstation as it freezes as well. Does anyone know who to contact? Mojang is apparently aware and unwilling or unable to fix this. I have not tried to contact Sony but my experience with large corporations has left me with a Bad taste in my mouth...they are usually unconcerned with this type of thing. Companies passing the buck back and forth is just annoying and I am ready to trash the game and go back to other hobbies. It's a shame we all already gave these companies our money...makes it hard to get their attention.
I finally caved and turned on host privileges for the option to turn off mob spawning. Yes, it ruined my perfect survival world status even though i have not touched creative mode.
Things have since made a turn for the better. Mobs, especially passive ones have been spawning at a ridiculous rate lately. I went over to one area so bogged down with hostile mobs that it caused severe framerate drops. I must have killed about 20 skeletons, 10 creepers, 14 zombies, 5 spiders, and several cows, sheep and chickens.
Since turning off mob spawns, there has been no lag, no save freezes, crashes, or disk failures.
I have accomplished everything in survival in this worl and have all trophies. Just concentrating on building now. So I'm not too concerned over boredom. I do hate that it had to come to this though just to make the game playable again.
Wow, you are strong to do that. I have a pure survival world that I've been working on for over two years and I refuse to compromise it. It's rather unfortunate that this is one of our only few fixes to the issue. Thanks for sharing that info, I might make a new world to test what exactly I can get away with being active on a world all at once.
Like I said, I have accomplished everything in that world and have all trophies. And i wanted the option to teleport a second player to me to haul leftover materials that my inventory and enderchest wont hold. And there are no freaking Donkeys! Really looking forward to shulker boxes, btw.
I also like being able to turn off tile drops since i have two freaking double chests filled with cobblestone and another filled with dirt and cannot store anymore of either one. I have tried going through it but i keep replenishing it WITH my structures alone. So turning off tile drops has been a welcomed part of my building.
Not to mention, actually getting to finish them.
So why turn off mob spawns when i can just use peaceful mode? Because hostile mobs aren't the only ones. It gets far worse in peaceful mode because the lack of hostile mobs are now making room for more passive ones, who are also appearing in ridiclous amounts. To the point that they are causing lag, interfering with breeding, and glitching out the auto-save. Spawners still work even with this option, and I can still fight blazes, zombies, spiders, and skeletons whenever I feel like it. And you still lose hunger, which is a feature i enjoy in survival. But I can now breed more animals and work on my buildings without creeper threats, annoying skeletons, or needing to carry so much crap.

If you have PlayStation Plus, make sure to keep a backup copy of your 2 year old world by uploading it to the Online Storage, then turning Automatic Uploads off (so that the backup won't be overwritten if the world corrupts).
As for me, I can't really play anymore. In addition to freezing on load screens (when saving), saving actually just doesn't work. I'll load a new world, get a base set up, progress a little, and then, when I exit and come back a few hours later, I load the world to find that I'm placed in a new, totally different world.
This is crazy. I have been reduced to just one survival world that I've had since launch, and I'm almost certain that it, too, would fall victim to this if I dared to load it up.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I'm gonna buy a cheap bouquet before it dies on the display.
We've been making changes to the way we deal with the UI.
This should free up a large chunk of memory and stop the Failed to Load issue from occurring.
I've marked the Bug as fixed on the Jira database (Every instance of this bug from worlds we have been sent no longer occurs)
We should see this fix roll out within the next few weeks (Not got a confirmed date yet)

Sorry. Can't help.
PS3 isn't supported any longer.
I haven't played on PS3 in many years. I'm on a PS5 now and the game works flawlessly.
All I can recommend is to get a PS4 or PS5. The PS3 is obsolete and can't run Minecraft any longer.
