Yes there is, but the game needs to be coded to include it. It seems the vast majority of game developers fail to enable it as I've only ever seen it work on around 3% of the games I've played.
Guys! I've found an okay way to take a screenshot!! First in minecraft look at what you wanna screen shot, then exit/save the game. What your screen was when you exited and saved will be your screenshot. Take a usb flashdrive and plug it in your PS3. Quit minecraft, then go to the little save data folder right above the cd and ps store. In that folder will be pictures of ALL your ps3 saves. Scroll until you find the picture you want to save. Press triangle on the option that says Copy+ with the ps plus sign. For the destination choose your flash drive. After it is done transferring unplug the flash drive from your PS3. Plug it into your computer. open up the file that starts with an n. For us users it'll start with NPUB and for UK users I'm not sure. Once you are inside that folder there will be an image. You can drag that image out of the folder and do whatever you want with it! it is your new finished "screenshot"!
minecraft on consoles, and pc java minecraft on linux.
Pokemon are amazing.
The ones that are decent and cheapest would cost you around $110 (It is 720p/1080i)

If the game supports it, pressing the PS button and Start at the same time will take a screenshot. I haven't tried this on Minecraft yet.
