Like others, I jumped on the bandwagon and bought Minecraft for PS3 when it came out, having played the PC version during beta and looking forward to having some of the similar gameplay experiences on my PS3... Unfortunately, I had no idea the world size was limited (or as small as it is), and from reading other posts this seems to be something that's either a hardware limit of the PS3, or at any rate, nothing which will be rectified soon. It's easy to label the request for an infinite world as being "demanding" gamers, especially if the original game didn't have an infinite world size, but I don't think I speak alone when I write I was expecting a similar experience on my PS3 and felt cheated when this wasn't the case. Was it my fault I didn't read very carefully on what the PS3 version included before purchasing? Do they clearly list the world size limit on the page to purchase Minecraft in the store? Has anyone else tried to contact 4J Studios or Sony to request a refund in similar cases, i.e., for features which aren't even included in the game but we were expecting? I already read Sony doesn't have a refund policy and we're basically out of luck, but I'm just wondering how many others out there have tried or thought about asking for a refund and what success or response they've gotten. I enjoy Minecraft, that's why I bought it, that's why I'm writing here. I don't want to cause any trouble or be a complaining gamer, just curious how big of an issue it may or may not be (after all, other PS3 players may not have been used to the PC features or maybe more accepting than I am). As others have pointed out, having limited world sizes drastically changes and limits the gameplay and makes it impossible to get enough resources to build the structures we imagine, and that should never be the case.
Too Lame;Didn't Read
Nope. Sony doesn't give refunds and seeing to how you purchased it from sony and not 4j, it's not 4j's fault or problem if you are unhappy with it or it lacked features that you expected either, it is your fault for not researching the product before purchasing it. I seldomly have any issues with not having enough building materials/resources. I'm resourceful and imaginative though. If you're unhappy with not have whatever you need in a world, keep making new ones til you find one that fits your needs or trade with villagers to get what you are lacking or you could go play on pc.
That being said; Slightly bigger worlds would be nice but I don't feel that they are necessary. I'd be afraid of getting lost underground forever and or forgetting where I built my base in an infinite world. Being able to transfer items between worlds is an alternative to infinite worlds and is within the consoles capabilities .

I already mentioned that I heard this about refunds Also, I just went to the Playstation 3 page for Minecraft, there isn't amy mention of the world size or limits... And if you consider it, why would they go to great lengths to list the differences or lack of features in the PS3 version as compared to the original? Doesn't sell too many games that way so it makes sense why they didn't... But again, that hardly makes it MY fault for not going to great lengths to find something which isn't clearly listed. You think it'd be the responsibility of the developer to do so, plus it hardly sets a good PR precedent or good relationship with fans if their response was really as cold and unsympathetic as yours.
That being said; Slightly bigger worlds would be nice but I don't feel that they are necessary.
Whether or not it's necessary is beyond the point, one of the cornerstones of the Minecraft experience is the possibility of nearly endless worlds, by removing that it changes the experience drastically... I mean, at this point, they may as well pre-create worlds and just have a few options to choose from, since they're already limiting us to begin with.
"Also, I just went to the Playstation 3 page for Minecraft, there isn't amy mention of the world size or limits... And if you consider it, why would they go to great lengths to list the differences or lack of features in the PS3 version as compared to the original?"
They (the wiki) did, you just didn't look in right place: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Console_Edition
If you read the ps3 page, didn't the line "The gameplay in Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition is identical to the Xbox 360 edition" gave you a huge hint that it would probably be a good idea to check out the 360 page, where there's a solitary link about 360 edition gameplay- which just happens to be the same link I listed above?
"You think it'd be the responsibility of the developer to do so (list the limitations of the game)"
Oh good grief. Name me one game, by any developer, ever, that includes a list of the shortcomings of their game. That's what reviews are for. And 5 minutes checking out the threads of the forum here would give you more real info about the game than you could handle.

I didn't read through your whole post, but you should be able to get a refund for the game if there is an actual issue with it that keeps you from playing it. So just that you don't like it won't fly, but if you can't connect to anything or can't upgrade to the full version of the game or one of those more game-breaking glitches, then you may be eligible for a refund.
I do agree though that the PS3 version is a huge let down, it just doesn't seem like it's ready to be a console game. It doesn't really have any customer support or even an official website. I know it only costs $20 but come on, even Worms has a full website with support. (http://www.team17.com/)
Sorry some of you are disappointed in the console version. Course, virtually all of the rest of us knew there was a difference, and have known for many months, that the console versions are not the same as the PC version. Thanks for the posts, and the warning (again).
Well its great to see people finally having a discussion on this forum
My biggest issue with this game is that it was released with a ton of issues, I mean, how did this game pass QA without being held back? Now they released an update and a patch and it still doesn't work properly! I'm trying to figure out why certain updates cannot be implemented in the world you have already created??? Why do you need to create a whole new world? So every time an update to this game is created I have to start all over? This is unacceptable to release and continue to release faulty software.
Map is not a problem for me, I just want it to save properly and work properly. This is very poor design and software implementation from the part of the developer and I would have thought Sony had more common sense then to publish such a faulty game.

Yay someone I agree with! Haha. But really this game just wasn't ready for the big time. It doesn't have it's own website, any customer-friendly way to get support, and is far to buggy and lacking in functionality to be enjoyed by those who were expecting to play Minecraft. This game has potential and may be great in the future, but in my opinion it was either released way to early or should be ported by a different, more reliable and well known company.
It doesn't have it's own website, any customer-friendly way to get support, and is far to buggy and lacking in functionality to be enjoyed by those who were expecting to play Minecraft.
* What do you mean "it doesn't have it's own website"? Isn't that what this one is, and the wiki?
* No "customer-friendly way to get support"? It's right here, in this forum. Ask any question that you want (or in this case, just to rant) and you'll usually get a response in just a few minutes. You want to talk to the developers directly? Like most companies now days they (4J) has a Twitter (or Facebook) site where you can do just that. ( https://twitter.com/4JStudios/ ), and, of course, their own website ( http://www.4jstudios.com ) with a "Contact" link. How much more 'customer-friendly' can they be?
* Some of you are upset that console versions (editions) don't have the (full) "functionality" of (PC) Minecraft. Got it. But MCPC doesn't have all the functionality (features) of the consoles either. And you're really gonna be upset with the PE version of Minecraft- it's not the "real" version of MC either. In fact, it doesn't even have all the functionally of the consoles, much less the PC Minecraft.
* Every game has bugs. As complicated as games are today it's impossible not to have bugs. Even the PC version has bugs, after all this time... and new bugs are introduced whenever Mojang issues an update.
When bugs showed up in the consoles update (TU14), 4J gathered info and listened to us ( http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/2512141-mcxbla-official-known-bugs-list-tu14/ ). They then sent to MS this latest bug patch about a week later. I have no idea how much more 'customer focused' and responsive they could've been.
All that really doesn't matter.
Even though it says "Minecraft" in the title, all versions are not the same.... even though we 'want' or 'expect' them to be, and they never will. (The One and PS4 versions won't be like the PC either).
They are what they are.

I'm pretty sure neither this, nor whatever wiki you're referring to is owned or ran by Mojang or 4J Studios. That being said, I don't see this as an official Minecraft website. (See that Worms game's website I linked you to earlier for an example of what I generally expect)
Also, a public forum is not a practical method of customer support. There should be a page dedicated for it (would be easier to have if they had a website) that lets you write a message and send it to someone (ideally customer service) that then sends you a helpful response within a few business days. Not post something on a forum and hope someone helpful sees it. The same idea goes with Twitter and Facebook. Also, that email address isn't for customer support; if it is then it takes more than 2 months to get a response.
I'm not mad about all of the features not making it from the PC to the console version. Games made for PC and are ported to a console very rarely have all the same perks that the PC versions do because PC's can ideally run much more than a console and can also "support" mods. (See Team Fortress 2) And lack of functionality for a mobile device goes without saying. However, if the console has the ability to run features that were cut out, ie riding on a horse, then to me there's no reason it should be cut out at launch.
Yes, every game has bugs. But, generally speaking, every game's main functions are playable at launch, or at least five patches later. I have an issue where I can only connect to one of five of my Minecraft friends without getting a "Host has left the game" error. While only a handful of us have this issue it is game breaking since the main reason of buying Minecraft is to play with friends. For more info on this glitch, go to my three month old bug report under the "Help & Support" section of this forum: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/2290552-host-has-left-the-game-network-error/
The problems are not the shortcomings of the game. It's the shortcoming of this version. Name me one game, by any developer, ever where you pay the exact same amount of cash for a stripped down edition. We're not talking about 1-2 features missing, it's half the friggin game.
Sorry, I had to address this one:
2011's Battlefield 3 from EA/DICE comes pretty close to filling those shoes.

Skylanders Swap Force on Wii is a stripped down version of the Xbox 360/PS3 versions. I believe Disney Infinity on the Wii is similarly stripped down from the other console versions. I remember back on the original Xbox, Rainbow Six was majorly stripped down compared to the PC version. That's just a few off the top of my head.
I agree that the selling parties are not completely honest with what the product is. I started on PS3 version and had no idea that 4J and Sony "dumbed down" the program. I found out after playing the PC version.
To address the question, Sony doesn't give refunds.
So, I would take this to your bank or credit card company and file the dispute through them. Of course, don't keep the software installed if you are going this route.
It's a $20 game, what's to moan about?
Mcps3 is the only version I've played other than pe.
I knew far before I brought it that it was going to be the same as 360.
So your post is nothing more than a sad sob story.
So for a game written by a different company, in a different programming language, on a different platform, sold through different channels, for a different price, it's not worth looking up what features that game might have because it couldn't possibly be ... different?
